A friend of mine just got a 20" silver aro with no DE. He got it from a barbershop thats closing down. But the weridest thing is not the DE. The owner never used a cover for the tank so its been open 24h a day since he got the aro as juvi.. O told him to buy a lottory ticket cus i never heard of that before.. But i dont know what he did feed it or what light he used all i know is that the aro looks mint and got no DE at 20" or more

That is amazing... what size tank was he in... i cannot amagine a arowana with no weighted down top to his tank... they almost always jump at anything... and just for the heck of it... i have to be careful of mine when i wear red or orange... he will get into a curled up position and look like he is ready to sail... i always leave the room and go change rather then take the chance...and here is this arow in a barber shop with people coming and going and no top on the tank... wow... and no drop eye problems... maybe they need to look out and up... maybe they should invent a big bubble top for them... give them some jumping room...

I haven't read this whole thread and this may have already been covered, but I have to satisfy a suspicion that I have had about this subject for a while. Could it be just as simple as if an aro can't see up to search for food then they look down, and dropeye slowly develops? Has anybody had an aro that developed dropeye in a tank with a perfectly clear lid??

I have a perfectly clear lid.. and mine has Drop eyes in both eyes.. i have heard they can get it being raised in some ponds... but even though this does occur there may still be something to it involved ..such as sunlight and lighting... etc .. how big the tank or pond is?? i doubt we will ever know but we are certainly trying to find some small indication of why..

Huh, well I guess that blows my theory right out of the water :D I think this is a really good thread...if you find enough similarities of the environments of aros with or without dropeye maybe you can at least narrow it down a bit.

it does not blow your theory yet..other factors may contribute to it... everything is of essence.....
