You're a fool....

Get a Volvo man. Seriously. If you just want a car to last, my first car (a 940) had over 250k miles on it before I totaled it. Never did any major work to the engine or tranny.

My current car is a 1998 V70, with 185k miles on it. I have owned it since under 100k miles, and the ONLY work besides new tires, tuneup, or changing oil, has been a front end rebuild. I had to replace the lower control arm on the passenger side, but then just went ahead and redid the whole front end (both control arms, sway bar links, new struts, and new front axles). Cost me 700 in parts, and the car feels brand new again.

You can't beat the Volvo's man. Cheap used, and run FOREVER. If you are into speed/performance, you can pick up a Volvo V70R for under 10k or a S60R for about 25k.

Little bit of info on the V70R: Around 300hp, awd, 2.5L Turbo. I will have to look, but I have found vids of them beating 911's and M3's. It is what the cops use in Europe.

And they are still cheap....

Might be a bit on the girly side - but I drive a Smart Forfour.
Its the bigger version of the regular smart car (which, FYI I don't particularly work)

Upside of the forfour? Has amazing safety ratings, real good with petrol, handy lil'car and its just fun.

But I live in Europe and bigger cars here don't work as well due to limited space... but just an idea.

I personally have a deep love for mustangs, but I've been told they don't handle well. For beginners, i would reccomend a volvo or Nissan Altima/maxima.
