Just wondering what a good lung to start out with would be?
I'd really like a lungfish, but I dont know anything about them.
Have read some stuff one MFK but Now I'm becoming seriously interested in them.
What would a minimum tanksize be for a lung?
I've heard many different opinions.
How long could one live for in a 75?
Thanks.
;)

I will recommend Protopterus aethiopicus congicus (African Marble lungfish), nice pattern, hardy and easy to keep.

How long would one be able to live in a 75 gallon though?
They get 4-5 feet correct?

I was thinking, if I cannot keep a lung in this tank for long, getting an Amphiuma as they could live in a tank thise size for life, and look very similar to lungfish.

I agree with Star-Flog

Generally lungs dont need alot of space, especially if kept alone.

WALs are hardy and look good, SALs are better for large communities but are much less attractive in my opinion.

But what would minimum tank size be?
I've heard many conflicting theories.
Some say 6'x2x2, others say 4x2x2, some say huge tanks for 300 gallons or more for a single lung.

I probably wouldnt be housing the lung with anything, but if I were to It would probably be a plecostomus or possibly polypterus.

Honestly your best bet would be an annectens or WAL or the COMMON lungfish all 3 names for the same lungfish they top out at about 30-36in. I have seen BEAUTIFUL specimens raised there holes lives in 75gal. tanks they aren't very active and are very flexible so they should do fine

fairly inexpensive, VERY hardy, EASY to feed, MIGHT become pretty owner responsive over time

THE ONLY DRAWBACK TO AFRICAN LUNGFISH IS THE NO TANKMATES RULE THEY ARE VERY VERY UNPREDICTABLE FISH I'VE SEEN THEM LIVE IN HARMONY WITH FISH FOR MONTH AND MONTHS AND THEN overnight desimate the ENTIRE tank no questions ask

Just wanted to say.
If anyone else has anything to share about lungs, by my guest.
I'd love to know more about this awesome fish.
:)

dolloi or annectens.
dolloi look a bit better and stay smaller than annectens.
their around the same price here but dolloi is harder to find.
all african lungfish have pretty much the same care.
but marbled lungfish get the biggest.

mines in a 75G right now

He seems happy in there and i will move him into something abit larger later in the year.

Im thinking of getting a custom tank for him long and low kinda job.
