Good tank setup for a few Bichirs & Rope Fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depending on the species of moss (java is the most common) and the tank conditions, it can grow very slowly, or like a weed. I used to have it covering about half of the substrate in a 130. It looked pretty cool. It won't attach to the tubing. The bichirs probably won't use the clear tubing either, since they can see through it easily.
If you want to cut back on the light, try some watersprite. It's a very easy to grow floating plant. It can grow very fast, but you just pull out however much you want and trade it or toss it in the compost.
If you decide to make rock cave, silicone the rocks together. Better safe than sorry.
As for the background, when I had my store I decided to paint the backs of the tanks after they were set up. I just used plain latex paint that was black. I used a foam brush to put it on. Two coats and it was done, all with fish in the tanks.

I may have a little bit of silicone left over from my 10g repair. Someone gave me a 10g but it had no silicone, so i had to make it watertight again. If not, does most lfs carry aquarium silicone? This stuff i had to clean and let cure, if not it woulda been deadly toxic to the fish.. dont wanna put that in my 70g..

Will the moss grow up everything though, just not the tube? I really like the idea of having a grassy bottom..

Also, would he go into the tube if i wrapped some old green fish net around it? it makes it a lot less transparent...

I would get some taller plants. My Rope fish an young Bichirs would always hang out in taller plants most of the time. I wouldnt worry about caves if you have a school of Rope fish will pile on each other like Bichirs. good luck

Pailum92,

I would use a lot more rocks and wood.
Pile it near the back of the tank so that the Ropes can go and hide behind it without being seen. They will feel more secure this way and actually come out more, than if they have no where to hide. Where they will be constantly stressed.

be careful with those plastic root wads i had the exact one and the roots are hollow ,had one of my sens that hid in the cave hole and swim down the roots get stuck and drowned i imagine.
