I've done that before, it's horrible, but now i've got a pump attchment which means that i can pump that water through the pipe rather than suck it.

im using a self starting siphoning hose one i use it for my 10ft does a good job no need to sucky sucky lol.

you should clean it more often. mine done ever get real bad, but i do it every other week.

ROOKIES, give it time, you'll eventually like it. It's like beer, you develop a taste for it. JK
I do twice weekly water changes so it's never too bad. I can honestly say if I had to I probably wouldn't mind drinking the tank water. LOL
