goonch grow out

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Loving your Goonch mate, love it. Cracking looking specimen and awesome that it's taking pellets.

You queried tank depth, how deep it should be?
I don't know if depth is a major issue to the species, imagine the smaller specimens keep to shallower water/pools perhaps to avoid becoming dinner for the larger catfish around - on river monsters Jeremy goes snorkelling amongst rocks looking for pretty big specimens and the depth must be around 6' give or take.

I think the width you've got in the upgrade is excellent, plenty of scope to provide both lots of hiding space and also open space on the bottom.

You could put two pumps either end of the tank to create more turbulent mixing waters, just an idea, probably the wrong one lol!

thanks for the complements.

i think depth wise you're right when i do get sorted and build the pond size im thinking 3-4ft depth should be more than enough.

i had my eye on this tank for a while so made them an offer and they were happy with it so just need to sort a van now to pick it up.

if i go two each end i could also go one high one low on the water table that way creating total flow across the whole tank. just be a case of playing with it once it's good to go think ill have a couple of months before its needed any way

i love his evil looking face, is he possibly a HLG?

he could be, from the reading it's hard to tell, i have to just wait and see lol. he is a side on picture he is starting to put on some weight now he is taking pellets, got him on 5-7 carni pellets at the moment.

thinking i might get a carp or two to go in the tank and help clean up the food, he is quite a messy eater and they will handle the temps and flow, and might be too big for him to eat hahaha

Aw3s0m3 Aw3s0m3 i think after your explanation in the other thread, as mine does not have the facial lines and not as much of a gradient from mouth to dorsal fin i think it's safe to say it's a HLG, any thoughts??
