I have always had an interest in monster catfish but have never had much luck finding them in my area (Nova Scotia Canada). I have always wanted to try the Goonch but am looking for a little more info. What is the availability like (can you even get them in Canada or the USA). What is a good temperature to keep them at, would i need some sort of heater, what is the cold tolerance like ( i like to put some windows up in my place sometimes in the winter to let fresh air in ). I have heard they are from India and Southeast asia but have also heard they can be found in icy/cold rivers fed by snow melt from the Himalayas, so i have no idea what the temperature tolerance is like.

oh, and you can get them through a few vendors on here. PM Wes (fugupuff) as he knows when they will be coming into season.

Does Wes even ship to Canada?

Are they any good as a pond fish (like Koi for example) or definitely something which needs an indoor tank ( i am guessing indoor tank).

i am guessing that even though i see they are often classed as a cold water fish of Nepal i would still have to bring them in for the winter time?

Even given the fact they like fairly cold water, are often classed as a cold water fish, live in some rivers fed by snow melt ect. and also the fact that southern parts of NS are some of the warmest in Canada, I still would have to say Yes for sure. I am no expert on them but I don't think they could handle a winter even in the absolute warmest parts of Canada (possible exception pacific coast of BC). I am sure people who have more experience with these fish will confirm what i am saying.

Yeah, I am not postive about them lasting through a Canadian Winter. The rivers they are from are very cold, but never freeze. In a pond that would freeze in the winter would ensure they would more than likely parish.
