Got a 55 Gallon !! i need suggestions :D

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've got a midas, salvini and JD in a 50gal all of which are around 8inch and they are fine.

That's really not fine... unless your running a really good canister or sump then the bioload in there is going to be huge, and thats not even the big problem. like xinchavoc said those fish are probably stunted. Midas get to be over a foot long normally its not uncommon to see them that big, but it is uncommon to see a Midas that stopped growing at 8inches.. That tank is really only big enough for your JD or your Salvini... not all three, not even two of them, and definitely not a Midas not even if it was by itself.

wow, there are alot of horrible suggestions in this thread. op a firemouth and con would be fine in a 55 and there are alot of other fish in the thorichthys family and archo/ crypto families that arent as common that would work. salvini would work also. Imo the absolute biggest fish shoukd be no longer than 10inches and thats pushing it. gt, midas definitely get too big. I know most carpintis top out around 9 inches but if you look in the media lounge there are some monsters in the 10 to 12 inch range so i wouldnt do that either. severum would also work but not all those fish together imo.

could someone give me a setup that involves a male JD please ? i already have him in there by himself ... lol hes currently with a calico convict and a yellow severum ... could i remove the severum to add a texas cichlid?

A Texas cichlid is H. cyanoguttatus (12+"). Is this the fish you mean? If so, then NO. Texas get too big for a 55. If you are calling a H. carpintis (8+") a texas, then yes, it could work for a short period of time. Once they get bigger though, the JD & Carpintis will most likely fight.

a setup that involves a male JD? even though JDs are "super rare" :nilly:, if you could figure out how to utilize the search function here on MFK, you could find thousands of setups and also find answers to all your other threads youve posted that have been answered thousands of times since 2005.

you say you already have him in there by himself. then you say hes with a con and severum. which is it? alone or with a con and severum? alone or with a con and severum? :screwy:

and again,

Texas cichlid is H. cyanoguttatus

H. carpintis mistakingly called the green or blue texas, even though its not from Texas.

2 different fish with 2 different attitudes, sizes and tank size requirements.

No need to get upset. Itll be ok...

or even a few mollies( i know they might no survive)

I would say 95% IMO the molly's will be shredded. I dunno why but IME JD hate molly's and platy's. My girl friend had two platy's in her tank that were nipping at her snails. She had someone coming to get them for her platy/molly tank the next day so we housed them in my 95g with my 7" JD for overnight so the snails were left alone. In the morning those things looked like tuna fish. The JD didn't "eat" them he annihilated them. Their whole stomach was eaten out and they were shredded and yeah... Suffice it to say I learned that lesson the hard way. Wouldn't recommend the molly's in with a JD.

I think there might be something wrong with your link VRWC?

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

Yea, with the new MFK format, searches renew themselves about every 3 minutes or so so any links given from a prior search string seem to be rendered useless. sorry.
