Got a 55 Gallon !! i need suggestions :D

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I recommend a Texas and a Jack Dempsey, they are pretty laid back and they usually wont take sh*t from other cichlids,if they feel threaten.Oh also to clear this up a bit on my end, make sure you get a Carpintis those usually grow 10 inches the most,as for JDs,you can have in the tank for more than a year honestly, they grow about 6 to 7 inches in 1 year, then grow quite slow, compared to Oscars,Midas, ect.

I'd have to disagree with the Texas Cichlid and Jack Dempsey combination in a single 55 gallon. IMO the Texas by itself might be okay in a 55g but in no way would the Texas and JD be okay in a 55g.

Two fairly aggressive large cichlid in a 55g would likely end disastrous or in you having to find a new tank or home for one of them. Only thing I would really put with a JD in a 55g would be a smaller cichlid like a Convict or a Firemouth, or a school of dither.

I completely agree with this. I've kept both species in larger tanks than a 55 and they still showed quite a bit of aggression, especially the Tex. To me a JD is on the lower end of the aggression scale in general but if kept in a 55 as an adult with a Tex, there is a real high chance of their being some fights. There's just not much room for either fish to avoid the other when things go bad. Keeping one with smaller cichlids and/or a school of fish would be better IMO.

I don't see where he mentioned it being temporary so I assume that this is a long-term tank. This could be a moot point anyway because the OP was Banned earlier today. I don't think he can post anymore.

oh well,I guess we will never know the answer then.

What? There are at least a dozen answers given in this thread. Or maybe you have a specific answer your looking for?

Edit: I see the answer your looking for is to your assumption of this being a temp tank.

He meant because the OP was banned, we will never know what he decided to do with his tank.
