got a baby chinese water dragon!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its fun when i drop stuff into the water and he goes after it while swimming. i had thought the water would be a waste of space but he definitely uses it.

get a dragon you seem to really want one. put the turtle in a little indoor pond type thing so you can view it from above.

To bad I can put both in the same, get a larger tank with a larger water area. i think the next venture for me is a Bearded then I think I will get a Water. If I can get a job then I can get both, sucks being 18 sometimes.

bearded dragons are great pets but i find them too boring. CWD are active and do well in the whole land/water thing and i can be more elaborate with the setup with plants and what not...as opposed to sand and a cave.

i dont know what type of turtle you have...but if you can build/buy something bigger then what i have...i don't think it would be impossible to do a cohab with a small turtle such as a musk.

i would just be worried the dragon is intimidated by it and not enter the water. a turtle no matter how small could do real damage. plus the whole disease swap thing...

but there was this guy who kept a cwd outside with turtles in a pond with a land area. the yard was all 'walled' in. im gona see if i can find the vid again on youtube

Since its still a baby I could lower the water level by 3-4 inches and section of half of the tank for land like you have and then build above the land and water with branches and to climb on. The only thing I would be worried about is the turtle, not sure how the water dragon would be with it.

what is it...a yellow belly slider? i cant really tell lol.

the dragon is mostly arboreal......so there is a thing as too much water. my water is barely deep enough for a fluval 2...and on top of that..it is sloped. your setup is nice though. i would just drop in a bunch of zebra danios for activity. no way your turtle is catching them.

I have a golden thread turtle. So you don't think I could do 16-24" x 12" x 4-5" of water? I found some one who has one in a setup with my exact kind of turtle

i dont know anything at all about that species. i can only tell you about CWD and more known turtle species. alot of members here are against herp mixing (and for the most part...its for good reason).

one thing i will say if that if you feel that both their needs can be provided without compromise and they are all acting "correctly" and feeding well, then....

im just saying that i have a 125. i might have to expand vertically with a DIY cage topper which is fine. the tank is 6 feet by 18 inches.

i would not put a turtle in thought because the footprint is too small to provide enough water for the turtle. is i had a tank that was 8x2 then i would drop in at least one musk.

the anole and curly tail i have in with the water dragon are probably not going to be permanent. he is a baby and already arm waving all over the place. ill probably trade the curly and keep the anole for him to show off too.

i will put snails and guppies in the water area though.

It won't get much bigger than 8 inches and right now its about 2 inches. I plan on building a bigger enclosure in the spring. I could move the turtle into a smaller tank and using the bigger one for a water dragon.

You will have to. Mixing is a means to losses, only luck and some "skill" will you do it properly, which even zoo's lack.
