the problem with in ground pools is maintaining temp, where as above ground pools can stay at room temp, i have 4000 litr pond in the ground and it takes 3 300 watt heaters 24/7 to maintain 22cel. the below groud pool heaters are very heavy power users put this with all your pumps your bill goes thru the roofComatose;5049576; said:
Green house set ups tend to grow algae like crazy. The set up we did for the Como Zoo in St Paul, MN was half 'in ground' - and in a glass room. It was as bad as having the pools outdoors in direct sun 12 hours a day.

I am in the process of planning a pool that is underground. the roof is at ground level with the bottom of the pool 19 ft below grade. Heating is expensive, from what the engineers tell me, dehumidification and cooling are the greatests costs. To do it right, the costs skyrocket. In the winter, the water needs to be heated, preferably with a heat exchanger and then the room with forced hot air. I am looking at oil boilers for this. The roof needs venting, retractible roof, clear story, like what is used to dry tobacco or lots of ducts as you see with indoor water parks and public aquariums. The latter uses a lot of electricity. Putting it underground will reduce building costs and help control temps.
my shark pond is in the ground, in winter with no heating it goes right down 13 cel in the hottest part of summer 26.5 cel . so you can see it was only heating that was a problem for me, pond is 4000litre btw.I am starting to design a above ground pool which will be masonary with a liner. It will be enclosed roof with a lot of windows to open to allow humidity to escape. heating is still my big cost apart from construction which i will do myself . my indoor tank has a aircon inside the hood keeps tank at about 23cel in peak summer and is heated in winter otherwise temp drop to 19-20 cel
in the past i paid a nsw delivery person 3000litres at a time , but the other day i had 15000 litres deliverd. it went into my below ground pool i can now do all my own water changes , i have 4 systems running at the moment
