Got A Kitten The Other Day!....Interesting story

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One thing I do know for sure is if you're going to feed it canned food, DO NOT LEAVE THE FOOD IN THE CAN. Scoop it out into a bowel. The metal lip left on the can after you take the lid off is very sharp and can cut the cat's nose or mouth while it's eating.

Also, and I'm not sure if this is a real concern or not but just a thought that popped into my head, if you're planning on letting it catch mice you should probably take it to the vet more often than usual to make sure no viruses or parasites get transferred from the caught mice to the cat.

Hey thanks for the info, I brushed her paw in the litter box multiple times. She hasn't had the need for a restroom yet...hopefully in the litter box this time. I bought her food from Petco....I don't like pet foods sold at grocery stores. I'm going to buy some food that is dedicated just to kittens off of www.drsfosterandsmith.com. I'm also going to be purchasing a lazer pointer and some other toys. Also do they sell any sprays that will help the kitten realize where the litter box is?

Last but not least, do cats shed a lot?...so far sophia really hasn't gotten any hair on my cloths compared to some dogs.

Instead of declawing I use fingernail clippers and just clip the nails just like you would a dogs nails, so far it works great. My son use to get cut up but now nothing.

My problem is damn fleas

Shedding depends on the length of the hair, but combing will help keep it down

Good Brands of Catfood that you can find at your local petco are from best to ok are: Wellness CORE, Wellness, Blue Wilderness, Natural Balance, Blue Buffalo

As for toys DON'T EVEN WASTE YOUR MONEY! You can use everyday household trash for toys and its FREE! My cat loves the plastic that binds our paper bundles together. One toy I want to get my cat though is http://www.dogstuff.com/funkitty-eg...s-p-30502.html?utm_medium=link&utm_source=gps. You can find something sim. at walmart.

As for the spay debate I would personally wait a few months to let her body fill in more. After the first heat cycle I would spay at the least.

And for training cats its simple, inforce bad behavior with water squirts/loud noise and inforce good/desirable behaiviors with food/toy/scritches/praise.

Cool thanks, also does anyone know how many times a day should I feed her? On the back of the wellness dry kitten food tells me to do 1/4 cup dry and 3oz can of wellness kitten formula. Isn't a whole can too much?

Wellness is great food, we got our cat at around 6 weeks old and hes been on wellness ever since...his fur is pillow soft. I think an entire can is too much on a daily basis, although its the dry food and not the wet that makes them overweight. I think when my cat was a kitten we did 1/3 of a 3oz can twice a day. I wouldn't worry about the litterbox, cats don't need to be trained like dogs. At 6 weeks my cat was found in someones garage, his business end was actually bulging a bit and when we got him near a litter box he immediately let loose.

Not sure if it was mentioned already but don't forget to take it to a vet for vaccinations. PETCO stores around here do a clinic every saturday for a few hours, inexpensive opposed to going to a regular vet.

my cat is about 9 months hes starting to catching things. i wasn't sure if i was going to let him outside but he escaped for about 4 days and was fighting in the neighborhood at nights. couldnt get him. then, he showed back up and starting indoor/outdoor ever since.

i seen him get a mouse and a shrew. hes starting to go after squirrels. there is plenty of them here. my dog caught a squirrel a few months ago and almost popped another last week lol.

anyways...there are a few cats in the neighborhood and there are still all working out their territories

oh btw. i let my cat leave his claws as sharp as possible since he fights. he doesn't destroy anything because he goes outside. (indoor cats get way too bored). make sure it has all its shots if letting it out.

Well I took sophia to the vet at petco. They said she is too young for any shots, in another month I bring her back in. I've noticed she only pee's in the litter box....one time pooped. We found all of the other poop behind or christmas tree...not the kind of presents I wanted lol. Also thanks for the proportion of can...I guess I'll just sprinkle some of the dry food along with the can.
