Got a ray IN the bay!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I prefer frozen shrimp / prawn over pellet for my rays. it just seem to be much more nutitious than a dried pellets.

If you have a really energetic ray, it might climb up to the top and rest on it, depending on how it is positioned. I've got a really bouncy leopoldi x pearl that loves to climb over everything. Generally if you put the heater up high, it is alright. I would just be aware of it, if you really don't want to/can't get a heater guard or throw the heaters in the sump. You can cut 3/4" pvc pipe and drill holes in it, if it is a financial issue.

Also, do try blackworms- I've never seen a healthy ray turn them down.

Just out of curiosity, how big is the little gal?

She is about 6"-8" and I have placed the heater near the surface of the water.

i said it has to be vertical.... i have some crazy active rays.... never had one burn from a stealth... same goes with jager heaters done the same way...

I have stealth heaters, she still got burnt...

can she prop her self on a piece of drift wood or somehing to hold her there??? move them to the sump or get/make heater guards

no, the heaters are really far. It would be almost impossible for her to reach them. But, I am looking into heater guards...

i'd get the pleco out

My KISS approach on the rays' diet - just feed them with what they like.

I agree. Until you fatten her up a bit, just offer black worms and maybe finely chopped earthworms mixed in if you are worried about nutrition. Plenty of threads on getting them onto a more balanced diet, but first she has to get her J-Lo booty!

Nice motoro and set up.
thanks, thats what I think I'm going to do. I am putting chopped carrots and krill into the bowl containing the blackworms. I hope that the ray will get some nutrition indirectly.
