Got an Idea to completely avoid disaster leakage

^ yep a few contributing factors would be the tank being crazy unlevel, before i was on the site i ran a 55 in high school for almost 5 years that one side of the water was about .5 inch higher then the other, 0 problems and now someone else has been running the tank w/o issue for about 2 years now.

Other things that can happen, air line could pop off and that could drain the tank near empty if its not caught in time and the airstone is on the bottom. Water check valves are a good cheap peace of mind item i never dont use for that reason. If you run a canister, the intake hose could come off if you cleaned and dont reattatch it correctly, or if a cat or dog is messing with it.

Also if your tank is in direct sunlight for a long time this could cause a leak, as the silicone would expand from the heat. When i get a new tank i put an extra layer of silicone on it, even if its new. I know silicone doesnt adhere to silicone but if you make the bead of new silicone big enough it will attatch to both sides of the glass. A little extra protection is never a bad thing!!
