Got Back Into Cichla.

I have 2 Kelberi. One is Jeff Rapp's batch and other is Bahia. Got my Bahia from reliable source.

Ohh... So you did get a Bahia. Nice. I thought he meant the Jeff Rapp's kelberi, which I am not a big fan of.

I still don't think you have Bahias Japaneseboi.

Those aren't spangles, those are reflections. That happens on all juvie cichla when small. Where did you get them from?

Here's my bahia at 2".
No spangling on anal fin. What do you think? Same?
What I notice when they are small is that spangling starts at the back end of the top fin.

Nice, my baby bahia's look just like yours. Just hope mines gets as much spangle as yours

I see no resemblance to Ken's Bahias. Look at the completely different body coloration, the gold in the tail, even the bar and body shapes are different.

Maybe it's called flash, so it shows more color... And kens looks a little bit bigger then mines are now...

Okay, let's keep the discussion civil. I think this is great for us all to learn the differences and recognize juvie bahias. Especially with so many out there now. Of coarse the sure way is to grow it out but can one tell them apart?
I'm not trying to stir the pot but I would like to know what the distinct features are.
japaneseboi is right my previous photo is with flash.... so hard to compare. I dug up a photo of when mine were 1.5" and taken without flash. Compare color, confirmation, eyes, stripes.
Let's make a call today on what they are and see in a few months.
