I work at my LFS and this Saturday i was moving some fish from a 150-g to a 300-g and I don't remember how, but one of the end-caps of the light bulbs fell off the bulb and into the tank while my hand was in the tank. And instantly i felt my body shake, i did not know what was happening at the time, it happened too fast. i guess my hand was in the tank for about 4 seconds. after about 4 seconds i was thrown back about 2 feet from the tank and fell on my butt, and almost instantly got up on my feet. I was told that i was electrocuted by 220V and even though it was not very painful i was feeling light headed and i felt like i was gonna pass out(I also had muscle cramps shortly after). The store has cameras EVERYWHERE so i asked to see the video clip of this accident, and I'm not sure but by now they probably most likely destroyed any evidence. all the employees watched it though, and one guy even saw me fall to the ground. I also learned that people have died from a MUCH smaller amount of electricity(I guess it depends on where it gets you.) I think i was lucky because i guess i am healthy, and don't have any heart problems etc.. Also I'm only 16 years old. so i guess the lesson here is to be careful, and always keep your eyes open, especially in a Unsafe Working environment like my LFS) BTW.. i got up and was selling fish again in about 10 minutes of the accident. they did not even ask me if i wanted to go home, or if i was able to work.
also and comments??? ALL the owners said was.... " I think those end-caps should be taped down to make sure they don't come off so easy next time"...When i walk in on Sunday I still see nothing had been done to fix the problem. I LOVE fish and i want to work with them and i still want to work there, but i think it should be safer for everyone.
thanks
