Got electrocuted at the LFS i work at.. :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
haha, the LFS i worked at had multiple tanks running off one vat with a monster filter and heater. the tropicals consisted on 3000+ gals and 39 tabks running off the same vat. the heater shorted out and we unplugged it after it electricuted me. we used submersibles for a long time before the electricial came. he got there and plugged it in and said "aint nothing wronge with it, i plugged it in and it works". i told him to 'feel how hot the water is!'. he put his hand in the water and knocked his *** to the floor! "see, i told you it was broke!"

Rare_Cichlids, you like the store you work at? It can be yours. Retain a half decent lawyer and you'll be able to file civil and criminal lawsuits. (The civil gets you the store and the criminal puts the owner in jail where he shares a cell with Bubba.)

WRONG

It takes as little as 30mAmps (0.03 Amps) to kill a human.

You are not a trainrd electrician and don't have the ability to spot the poteinal hazards or the skills to eliminate them. If your boss will do nothing then you need to call OSHA.

Bderick67, if you don't know what you're talking about.. Amps and volts are different. High voltage with low amperes will be painful but often will not kill you. High amperes, regardless of voltage is usually fatal. I'm clearly not saying that he should let this incident go unreported, however.

there are no grounding probes on some tanks.

DRUU......
i love that store and if he decides to sell one day i want to buy it if its cheap enough, but suing from what i understand takes time and money. also i don't think the accident was bad enough for me to go to court. but it would be cool owning that store :)......

besides i almost have no evidence because the only people that saw me get electrocuted are employees and i don't think they will risk loosing their job by siding with me. also I'm sure they would have destroyed any video evidence of it.

If the owner does not fix the problem i will call O.S.H.A. though.

I'm not sure where you're from, but in the States here, we've got subpoenas and perjury. You lie in court and you're looking at prison time measured in years. If the security camera footage has been tampered with, they will see that too. (State prosecutors will have access to experts.) Go with the criminal suit first. It would save you money as most of the evidence submitted there would be admissible in civil court.

Rare cichlids you can contact OSHA anomynousely. If you get fired because of the incedent you would then have grounds for a lawsuit.

:confused:Druu do you ever read and comprehend.Would you please point out where I stated that V and A are the same thing. My statement was a reply to
240V rarely has enough amps to kill you,
At that voltage it only takes as little as 3 milliamps to stop your heart.

I'm not gonna discuss electrical theory with you becaue of your statements above you obviously have no clue what your talking about. My advise to you is stay away from all electricity. Even the low voltage, high amperage system in your car, because as you put it
High amperes, regardless of voltage is usually fatal.

Just a question but did your parents go and speak to you boss regarding this issue. It doesnt seem like your boss is taking this as seriously as he/she should. Some people might not take a 16 year old seriously especially if they did not witness the severity of what happened

im glad that physically you are ok! but what bothers me is the nonchalant attitude of your employer. i would let your mom call OSHA, remember there is probably a statue or time limitation so it needs to be done now. You can also go consult with a lawyer for a 50 dollar fee (i have done this when dealing with my ex) so i would shell out the 50 bucks and see what they say... hell i might even call the Better Business Bureau and make a report. the point is, they shouldnt have blown it off, destroyed evidence, not send you to see a doctor on their dime (to cover their own arses) and the next day nothing was fixed..

i would be really po'd. Also, get the names of your witnesses, they may need to be called upon by a lawyer..

im just glad youre ok--but remember they shouldve done an incident report--what if you have health problems later in life, and it can be linked to that shock (that wasnt reported!) you wont see a thin dime...

oh- i forgot to mention that they CANNOT fire you for reporting something they lacked to report! Your safety, and all the safety of your coworkers ultimately comes back on your employer. period. so they are to blame for not reporting it or even making sure you were ok..

you can fight this, and if i were you, i wouldnt let it get swept under the rug..

let us know what happens!
