got in trouble at the lfs....

Well honestly I don't understand if America is free and we live in the land of the free and we pay taxes why do they have to tell us what we can and can't own... I understand endangered and cities but come on I can't own something cause the state doesn't want me to... Doesn't sound to free to me

Taking big brothers side for a minute. People on here and other forums are well informed and care about their pets/hobbies. I'm guessing over 90% would be responsible owners. What about the 10% that would'nt? What about ignorant people that would dump fish in local waterways? If it wasn't a problem, it wouldn't be restricted. Only takes a few bad apples to spoil the bunch. Of course I live in WI and just got some piranhas. I would think licensing could be the answer. With accountability on what comes in, and how to dispose of sick and dead fish. Of course what to do when you tell the gov't the fish got eaten by another and cannot produce a corpse??

i was hoping to get myself some pirannas, but we have an entire 'view' on these creatures are super dangerous.

i can think of ten speices more dangerous to humans that are allowed here in the states.

:screwy:

Well to defend myself I understand why there is laws hell they found paranha in a pond up in Dallas about 15yrs ago or so from someone dumping there pets into it and they lived. Hell there is reports of red belly pacu being caught in Lake Ray Hubbard. I understand the laws and why they are there. What I'm saying is there should be a way for people to get permits so that someone like me who is responsible can own certain fish. It's doesn't make sense I can go out and buy a Bengal Tiger but I can't go out and buy an A. gigas. Both can survive in the state both are bad for native species, and not sure about A. gigas but I do know that tigers have been let go... Just so everyone knows Tx. has is said to have more tigers in it then there is in the wild, also Tx has passed a law protecting Tx tigers and they can no longer be hunted. Just wondering why the law goes for some and not all....

wow you guys can keep tigers... what a dream, lol. yea theyre are wild panthers where we live, but thats cause of zoos but mainly circus's letting them go in the war. still cool though.

What size tank would one need for a Bengal Tiger :D

just get the papers to own it. thats what im gonna do. i know its a pain in the ass but it should be.

Yeah, good call. Everyone on here says that "responsible fishkeepers should be able to keep these fish, but they don't realize that for every one responsible fishkeeper, there are a thousand idiots out there. If it wasn't hard to get the permits to keep these fish, those thousand idiots would get them too and the law would be pointless.
