Got My First Job Interview Ever!!! Any Advice?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
She might use the word "deserve" on purpose, to find out whether the applicant is a flexible, open mind candidate, or a stickler, splitting-hair one.

I think asking whither you deserved the job is a mistake on her part, This is a question I would ask an employee, presently employed and looking to move to a higher position or wanting a raise, not a new hire

It is not a question you can answer as you have not worked for them so have no base or example to explain why you would deserve it.

matter of fact if pursued you may find that this question may not be aloud in a new hire job interview, there are allot of things an interviewer is not allowed to ask, I can not ask you if you have a car to get to work, I can ask, are you able to get to work on time for the schedule applying for. I can not ask if you have kids, I can not ask if you have any physical or mental health issues. I can ask if you are able to perform the duties as outlined in the job description. and so forth.

The question she asked is really in the gray area as it does pose a question that has nothing to do with the job you are applying for.

Well said.

I gotta say i never stuck to the rules when interviewing someone. I alsways asked what i wanted to ask point blank. Got in trouble twice for it but this was "back in the day" when things werent as serious as they are today

It is allot dif now, I know back in the day, I roofed for 26 years and retired from it over 10 years ago,

where I work now, I have had to take many classes on the laws for interviewing, what can and can not be asked. what I can and can not question my employees on., and bla bla bla bla.

even tho we are a work at will company. work at will means you can quite at any time for any or no reason and you can be let go for any or no reason.

beleave me, I miss the days where I just told a guy your fired , beat it, now days its a right up, called counceling for improved performance. go through the expections, ask why expections where or are not being met, ask what I can do to help them be met, and document and follow through with a 30 day review or keep up with the rightups till they reach final, advise termination with HR.

hand me your badge, you are suspended apon HR review.
