He’s pretty small too, about 4-5” and not very big around. But maybe….? Who knows. Can’t find it anywhere!

GT not interested in the Rainbows in terms of picking on them.Tanks a little cloudy because removed my center piece for a sec to see if the Barb found his way in there, but no luck. Here’s a couple pics though! Hope the Rainbows color up nicely! I actually really like the Tiger Barbs. They seem chill and super carefree. They literally started swimming around and eating right away like they’re at home already!

This happened within 5 minutes or less of putting the new fish in. Then just gone…..! I don’t think they could have killed one that quickly. Probably like 2-3 min even. I stepped into my office for a sec and then back out to check on them on could only find 5.
Rainbow fish are cool, they’ve settled in! My tank has pretty strong flow in it to keep the bottom clean, I like how they like to sit in the path of the flow. I like how the current gives it a real river vibe.
Also, I forgot about my lone surviving Danio in my stocking above - he has joined the Rainbows lol! He's the only one left the Oscar did not eat.
What kind of Bichir is this if you can tell? They seem to grow really slow! Had him for almost a year now.

My giant danio did the same once his school died off. I had a bit of “Australian Rainbowfish” (which I have been recently informed is a hybrid and not a true species) and the giant hung out with them and the beunos Aires tetras.
Seeing the two next to each other, it’s entirely possible the GT ate the barb (though the bichir could as well). That said, I’m sure the tigers will turn on each other soon enough (I’ve had a lot of bad experiences with them).
To me, the bichir looks like a Senegal. They are one of the smallest (if not the smallest) bichirs, so I wouldn’t expect much growth. Captive bred wild-type usually cap at 8-10 inches long.

Interesting, and good to know! If the Tiger Barbs do not work out...I think I'll add around 6-8 Denison Barbs. I have been researching like crazy for what all may work and those look really cool and get large enough to be safe too I believe. Fun learning about all of these little fish. Tank felt empty once the Oscar left....I've always wanted a pretty male GT so that is my main focus and center-piece. Just need some activity in there with him but he's a mean thing now apparently.
I put 2 of my buddies Severum's in there for about 5 minutes (out of curiosity for a test-run and both of which were larger than him).....that was a no-go. He literally instantly instantly attacked them both. My plan is to go from this tank to a 6 foot tank sometime this year. But I still think other cichlids are out of the question with him so I'm going to focus on schooling fish until I can find what my favorite is to keep his tank active and then hopefully get some more.

. I’m down to 3 Tiger Barbs now and saw it happen this morning! I didn’t think there was any way possible he was large enough to get them!
I’ll remove the 3 to save them and give to a buddy, those are clearly a no-go.
I ordered 6 Denison Barbs but all should be at minimum 2.5”. Those should look great with the Rainbows and large enough to not be a snack.
Again, going to 6 foot tank this year! Fish should be here Tuesday/Wednesday.
