Got my tank!

Ok got a few more fish, will take some pictures tomorrow but I have a question. I found a 3000gph waterfall pump that cost less than most 1300gph pumps with good reviews and good warranty. My question is, I only want about 1500-2000gph so will turning the ball valve down on my plumbing cause any negative issues with the pump? Also, what is a good GPH to shoot for on an overstock 125 with 55g sump?

Why would you want to turn it down? Too much current? Make it your return pump if you are using a pair or you can reduce its intake but not reduce its outflow. You can also make it pass through a trickle. Overworked pumps tend to overheat hence shorter life in the long run. Overstock? Reduce the stock, joke! I found 12x filtration good enough to clean overstock tanks but it does not guarantee that your water parameters are not messed up.

I had to turn it down because I didn't have a big enough overflow but I just built a 2nd overflow so I should be good for abour 2800gph. The pump I ended up with only does 2420@1ft. But I need to re plumb it. It has a 1 1/4'' outlet but I reduced it down to 3/4 so i could use everything i already had installed.
