aw man , you even made it your avitar , talk about rubbing it in . hehe i know i would be just as happy if i managed to get one. thinking about painting one of my aurantis lol

Well I had to. Let me know how the painting goes, If it works well, Wildwoods have about thirty Auranti's, Could make a fortune.

That fish is beautiful!

I'm not going to ask you how much it was, but how much do these typically cost? Lots of people are posting that it must have cost a fortune - what is a ballpark range for a decent snakehead?

hi Jelly, what a great fish to pick up, I always had a feeling you'd end up with a Barca :)

I know it sounds weird but in all the photo's I've seen of Barca they always have a sort of 'cuddly' look to them :)

Thanks, Unfortunatly I wouldn't like to say, I did pay a little over the odds for it. "A fish is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it"

For a Barca it's expensive, It depends where you are. The UK is typically expensive and the prices arn't consistant. while I was buying this one there was another possibility from a German importer that worked out a £1800. A large pair went to Japan for under £3000 excluding shipping. There is a rumer of one for £600 in the UK perhaps Tropheus can back that up. I haven't seen any evedence of that yet.

There are plenty of much cheaper Snakeheads. A great favourite of mine has to be Channa Aurantimaculata. normally about £60.

Thanks. I agree. It's the short fat head that does it. when he was in the shop he would take food from my hand.

I agree 100%. I can't tell people how much I've paid for some of my goldfish, because they aren't into fishkeeping and wouldn't understand. If you have the money and love the fish, go for it.

That is a really beautiful fish though... congrats.

Wow. Anyone know the guy with the only real pair in captivity?

These things should seriously be BRED. Anyone should put aside their comm tank infatuations until we have at least 3 farms breeding these guys. :D

Would be a bonus in beating the Australian Lungfish in terms of availability if they were bred to that degree.

there are two know pairs in exsistance , ashdavid has one pair and i belive a few single ones also , and the other pair is with someone who does not want everyone to know about it . but just lets say they are in real good hands.

the one for £600 was sold earlier this year by peir aquatics , that is if the guy who bought it is telling the truth , i suppose only peir and the guy know the true price it sold for , i know it was advertised for more than that. and had gone before i could get down to purchace it. i think all in all jelly payed a fair amount for the barca i think if it had been put on e-bay or even advertised at all it would of fetched at least the amount that was payed. probably more. plus this was ordered in for jelly by the shop (wildwoods) and i dont know of anyother shop you could walk into and ask for a barca and actually get one !!! the other thing is that fish will keep and more than likley rise in value as it grows , esp if they stay fairly hard to come by , if a ban comes in it would be worth twice as much. as there are no captive bred specamins . it is a true collectors peice.

jelly have you got it insured , it is something worth thinking about , and be sure to be carefull who you give your address to , this goes for all of us not just jelly . there has been a spate of fish robbing in the uk lately , maidenhead had some zebra plecs nicked recently from a shop on a busy afternoon while open , (a true breeding pair) . someone also got a shark stolen from a fish house worth a fortune somewhere down south (apparently only one in captivity), police think it may of been someone who previously had been to his house to buy some fish , or someone that had bought some talked to other people who talked to other people ect until someone talked to the wrong person. there has been a big increase around here of top quality koi going missing from peoples ponds . and sealife centre in scarborough had a penguin stolen by a child on a school trip belive it or not . crazy world we live in , just remember not everyone is as honest as you and the rest of us on here . although most people into snakeheads and that would be willing to pay that sort of money are a fairly tight bunch that all know each other and i would think it would prove more or less impossable to move on without alerting one of us. things like that just frighten me a bit. even when you think ahh its not so bad something pops to to remind you there there is indeed some scum out there . only yesterday i got a call saying my sister had been mugged outside of her workplace (an infant school of all places) .

cheers col
