Long story short, Chinese people have a belief that dead relatives will visit you at some point in time within the first 7 days after death...

So quite a few years ago a family member passed away and i was home alone... had a stack of large heavy graphic books sittin in the middle of the dining table that was 8' x 3' wide, and all of a sudden they all went flying off the table out of the blue...

So in my mind i had a feeling it may have been that relative, so said my goodbyes and then after cleaning up smelt a un-usual floral smell... later that week when i attened the funeral the same smell of flowers came up... so it was at that point i said to myself yup... i believe...

If you smell flowers out of nowhere, it is said that a spirit is in your midst.

Vietnamese people have a similar belief that when people past away, their soul roams the earth for the first 49 days. Then they move on to the next world...or not...

Reading some of these stories gave me the chills...read a couple to my wife.

Never seen anything and never believed in such things until my wife (GF at the time) and i moved in together. Something was just off with the apartment from day one.
The entire apartment was re-done, re-painted ect ect. Except one room. The rug was different than all the others, paint was old and it had this old wall paper boarder half way up the wall with roses on it.

I had an old english bulldog named Capone the dog was super protective of my wife and during the 1st few weeks he hardly left her side. Dog never seemed calm either always aggitated

Started with my wife complaining about the blinds. She would open them/close them and when we would come home they would be in the opposite position. She actually thought the land lady was screwing with us because she didnt like me.

Then Capone started. Our dining room was under the rose wall paper room and he would go absolutely crazy out of the blue...charging into the dining room barking and jumping at the ceiling, and i mean like crazy like his im not playing around bark. This kept happening more and more. I turned the rose wall paper room into a gym and me and capone were inseparable, if i walked in a circle he'd follow my every step. But he wouldnt come in the room often. Would sit just outside the door way. One day im doing squats and the he walks in real slow hair standing up growling, i thought he was going to bite me lol, dog darts past me and starts barking like crazy scratching at the wall, then runs to the other wall doing the same thing like he was chasing something but looking up and all around like his eyes were following something. Im like wtf ! But still never assumed anything

Then the door to that rose room starting slamming at night. The bad thing was the door had this rug stopper thing. It dug into the rug so you had to put some effort into closing the door.

It would be 2 am and BAM door would slam and capone would go bananas.

One night i fell asleep on the couch. I woke to the wf/gf screaming i run upstair to find her in the bed and capone at the foot of the bed teeth barred going nuts. She said the door slammed again and capone ran out of our bed room in the direction of the rose wall paper room, then he starts backing up into our room barking and snapping as if someone was walking towards him.
Things just got worse, their was always a bad feeling me and the gf/wife would fight like crazy over nothing.
We moved shortly after.

Animals are supposedly sensitive to spirits and the like. Come to think of it, my cat did that the other night...his eyes were following something on the ceiling. So I started looking too and didn't see anything. And then I saw...
...It was just a bug LOL

Your story is definitely creepy. I wonder if it would've helped if you had tried smudging with sage when you first moved in?

I have quite a few more stories to tell but these all happened to family members so I can't attest to the truthfulness. However, I see no reason for these people to lie so I will recount them anyway.

The first story happened to my mom's cousin...we'll just call her my aunt. Back in the 80's, they lived in the sticks in New Brunswick, Canada when most of the land was still undeveloped. She lived with her husband in a small apartment complex. One day, her husband bought these new shoes and he loved them so much, he decided to sleep with them. They had one of those headboards with a shelf where you could put things inside of and that's where he put the shoes. In the middle of the night, they awoke to the sound of footsteps walking around the room. My uncle instinctively looked to see if his shoes were still on the shelf and they were gone. They were too scared to look for the source of the footsteps so they just laid there, terrified out of their wits...hoping for the sounds to stop and tried to go back to sleep.

Second story...same aunt, same apartment. She was cooking one day and heard kissing noises behind her. She thought it as her brother, who always played jokes on her. Seeing as their kitchen had two separate entrances, she thought to herself "Well I'm going round the other side to sneak up behind him and scare him. That'll teach him." She did just that and there was nobody there. She searched their whole place and it was just her and the empty apartment.

This third story isn't a ghost story but it's scary nonetheless. In this same apartment building my aunt lived at, they had some really noisy upstairs neighbors. Loud music could be heard into the night, heavy footsteps, bangs, crashes. It got to the point where my aunt and uncle had to go upstairs and tell the guy to tone it down. Not a week later, the police show up at their complex to arrest this upstairs neighbor. He was some sort of serial killer and was using that place as his hideout.

The last and final story of my aunt happened when the family moved here to Ontario.
She works night shift so sometimes doesn't get to bed until 3 or 4 in the morning. Some time before dawn, she woke up and saw the shadow of a man standing at the window and looking out. She thought it was her husband and went back to sleep. Then she felt him sit on the bed and kiss her cheek. She knew something was off so when he came home, she asked him about it and he said it couldn't have been him as he had already left for work.

I could've sworn that house was haunted. You just had an unsettling feeling the minute you walked through the doors.

Went to church camp in Nebraska to Maranatha Bible Camp in my early 20's a few years ago with my youth group. It was awesome that week. Came back the last day to Colorado and slept at my uncle's house who's a pastor. Talked all night then we 5 of us guys went to bed down in their basement. Before that, I noticed my uncle had came from downstairs. Now, my uncle is a pastor and he's also a missionary who goes to China to spread the Gospel. They say that usually evil spirits are always prone to follow pastors from there to there homes. I didn't care but so we went on to sleep and about midnight my cousin who's pretty big Asian guy wakes up and yells, "AHHHHH, something's biting my neck!" I immediately woke up and was thinking, that's kind of weird. His brother who was sleeping next to him was like, "it's nothing, go back to sleep." Not even 5 seconds, he wakes up and yells, "AAAAHHHHHH, SOMETHING's BITING MY ARM!!!!" Right there I knew what was going on. I told my other cousin to ope the light and we looked at his arm and he had little teeth marks on his forearm!!! Asian cultures are very prone to dealing with evil spirits because they still hold their own traditions and pray to their ancestors who aren't really their ancestors. Because, once you die, you either go to 2 places, Heaven or hell. And there is no way you can get out of hell because that's where you're bound! But yeah, that wasn't the end of it. That whole night the evil spirit was bothering us. My cousin got sat on as well as me but I know God is greater and was not fearful. Some of you might think I'm lying or making this up but it is very much real as you and me. I heard a pastor say once, you know why the devil doesn't want to bother those who are sinning? It's because he already has them so there's no need for him to try and get you but for those who believe in our Lord Jesus Christ, he will tempt us and try any means possible to get us. The devil knows more about you than anyone. He knows what you lust after, he knows your habits, and he will bring you to places that will make you fall. The pastor says this, sin is like being locked up in a jail cell. You know you're in there and the gates are wide open for you to get out but you continue to stay locked up. It's not a good idea to talk about these evil stories because it will bring those who's faith is not as strong down. Also, it's like as we're boasting about evil spirits and what they can do as well. Many things have happened in my life but I know God is greater. If you go seeking for what you should not seek for, you will regret it. That's one of my life events.

I figured it was that lol.

Cats supposedly have a better attunement to the spirit world as well...its said if they sleep near your head at night that a spirit is watching and they are attempting to warn you.
