Nice Wayne. When u get your sumps running remember to add some mature bio media from your externals and Some of that gunk too . Will help seed the sump media.
I wouldn't add any more Fish until your sumps are Running. When I cycle
My tanks, I make Sure the parameters are stable (not fluctuating) over a
6 to 8 week period of cycling

I knew i shouldnt of done it:irked:

I didnt want to do it as the seals are buggered and once you move the canister pipes and mess with it it leaks.

Anyway i did....and Tracey got up for work at 4am only to wake me to say it had leaked out about 5 gallons over night all over the laminate floor:eek:, not something we wanted at 4am in the morning i can tell you.

I was going to wait untill the sump had cycled then see about the seals and fill the canister with filter floss as the sump will do all the main work.

I have had to, well mopup first then i set the canister back up again but sat it above the sump on a plastic box which bows i the base and sat the filter on that, a bit noisey now in the front room but it will have to do for now, it leaks out but then trickles into the sump through the holes in the box i have it sat on.

think i will see today if i can get some new seals for it, its not the best of filter i believe, its a aqua 1 cf-1000.

Oh well i dont start work for another few hours so i will just keep an aya on it for and escape water.

The sump is running a treat on one pump and i am still waiting for the other pump to arrive.

Normally you can use some Vaseline on the seals, you can buy specific stuff but Rheims used to come with Vaseline at one point.

I have left it as is for now sat above the sump dripping, but i think i have found it is the top seal thats gone. I have found a place that sells the new seals so will be getting some asap, also i am bidding on a second hand one on ebay.
Another note to self ` egt a non return valve on the sump pump`:screwy:, yes the elecy went of today LOL, only about 10 gallon this time......eeeee my wife must love me as i am still here to tell the tale LOL

P.S

dont have a fish tank with laminate floor, well unless you keep the water in the tank :irked:

One bad thing is the PH has dropped from 7 to near 6,5 since all the water loss, well thats what i think it could be.
But the rest if ine.

Anyway i got update pics of my girl, and with the lad to show the colour difference.

This is there chill out spot where they burry themselves, or at the back in the plants on the gravel.

I have been trying nre foods, earth worms, shrimp, even blood worm but all tnhey do is mouth it, maybe a bit of a bite of shrimp but never clean up. I am going to try the fatten up on pellets then starve for a week or so and then the new foods again.

They only seem to forage around every hour or so then go and chill again, but they seem happy enough, they love to mooch over the bog wood and in and out the plants.

I have been thinming also so that the light i have fitted to the tank is a 40w, a bit bright so i will be getting a smaller watt bulb maybe a 20w, the rays aswell as the silver dollars will like that more.

Water loss should not cause a ph drop, test every parameter of the water that you can...something is up.

Are you running a sump without the tank being drilled, I cannot see how you will not flood the house every time the tank goes off. A proper sump is designed to easily take the upper tank volume in a power outage.

If the ph drops any more or if unstable then you need to add some coral gravel to the sump to buffer the water.

Keep up the water changes.

Good luck and keep us informed, as long as you are achieving progress then the perfection can wait.

Firstly the water

Nitrite 0
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 15
GH 7
KH 4
No change in them,
But PH still 6.5

And the tap water is PH of 5.5, thats what gave me the thought of to much new water at once.

And the tank is not drilled, it was my mistake realey on the flooding, the inlet to the tank is about 2 inch below the surface, thats all it empted, the sump taken most but the last bit. I need to rasie it a bit and it should be fine so as ot to siphon back to much, i am getting a spraybar set up soon not the tulip return i have, too noisey that when near the surface.
i was going to get a non return valave but a few have said they reduce flow to much.

Will keep updated.

I have turned the lights of now and they are cruising even more now:)

Bit of an update as just sat here chilling with a brew and the sound of niagra falls in the back ground:ROFL: ( the filter system on the tank ) yes its loud:WHOA:
( Oh and the PH is still at around 6.6)

I have been off work the last 2 days to get a bit of work done in the garden...LOL more like mess with the tank and play with the fish.

I have to say how happy i am with these rays, they seem to have gone off pellets but love prawn and last night they readly taken muscle...........AND from the feeding prongs i got to clean out uneaten food etc.
Yesterday i dug a 30 foot trench for the garden wall fottings...OOooo lots of worms for them, if only, not a morsal in site, either to cold now for them or real bad soil.

I though it would be easyer to feed them by getting the food closer to them instead of it being lost in the flow, my god they jump on the thing at times. I thought they were just starving but as soon as its feeding time they know as io do it three times a day at the same time so they must be getting used to it already.

They have found a new chill spot on the gravel under the overflow pipe, good realy as they arent coverd in sand as much now and you can see they colours a lot better now there cleaner.

I am going to leave out the prawns and muscle for a few days now and try and get them back into the pellets also.

Wayne:):)

Good they are feeding, as they look a little thin. Don't bother with starving yet, just feed what they will eat so they can fatten up quickly.

Shame About the filter leaking. I would not even consider tryig to repair the filter. FX5 or 2nd hand eheims are relatively inexpensive. Get one of those, or just empty all the mature bio media from canister to sump. Dont take
Any more chances with that canister.

They have put on a bit more weight since they have been eating more prawn etc, although i thought they were ok on weight.
As you suggest i will keep feeding 3 times daily but less prawn as i want them to take pellets again. They must love the prawns as they were feeding on pellets when i first got them.

I am starting to build my big tank next year for them all ( i plan to have it built in 6 months), but what is the growth rate of motoro`s?

As i have a TSNCxRTC and want an arowana i dont want them to get to big for the 145g tank they are in, i have room for another 145g so if need be until its built i can move them into there own tank.

I found another one of the same on ebay and got it for £22, all up and running fine now, they old one i am keeping for spares.
I am giving the sump untill new year an then i will filling the canister with either wool or charcoal to keep the water polished.

wayne:)
