Sorry if this is in the wrong place but i thought it would fit into the DIY catagory.I have a 55 gallon tank and i'm thinking of getting another 55 gallon.
I want to do a gothic theme in one and a dark carnival/Insane Clown Possee/cricus theme in the other.Any ideas on what to do for decorations.Would it be safe to put glass figurines in the tanks. The type that are highly over priced I have one of a dragon but the wings broke off could i put some rubber cealent on it and put it in the tank? And are plastic toys safe to put in like are they toxic to fish or anything?
And also a question on fish what fish would go good in the tanks.I was thinking in the gothic themed one all black fish. And for the carnival themed one brightly colored fish kinda clownfish like colors and a few solid black.I basically want to build the fish around the aquarium. Are there any solid black fish that won't out grow a 55 gallon tank. Also would the aquarium lights fade a poser I thought about putting a black light poster behind the tank as a back ground but they are to expensive for them to only last for awile befor fading.

I think there are a few Tropheus that would be perfect for your project :) They are allot of black,... There are the ones with black body and a yellow or red stripe in the middle :) You would pretty much be limited to one species of these though :0 But that would be fine for your Gothic selection...

As for the Glass figurines :) They are Safe I would definately seal the broken wings with silicone.. Plastic is safe in my opinion as well :)

Tropheus :)

I hope it goes well for you davey.

I would love to see this tank up and running, and that Tropheus is kick ass!

OK newer update
the goldfish died so i compltly tore down and dissenfected the tank
i'll probly leave it alone to cycle for about a week but tomorrow i'll probly go to the LFS and get some decorations because the goldfish had none so i'll get gravel, toys,a air pump and the rest of the odds and ends
i will try to post picks as i go along
i might even give the 55 to the convit provided he doesn't kill his mate again lol.

Lost the goldfish too? That sucks, I'm sorry, but at least you can use the tank now. Hopefully the convict doesn't kill his mate again. I need to buy some convicts, but my lfs was out of 'em, stupid store. So you're starting on one of your goth tanks now?

yes i am strating on one of the gothic tanks
it's a 55 gallon w/ a HOB filter,and brown gravel.
the only filter pads i have are the ones that were in there when the fish got sick is it safe to wash them then put them back in the filter to help the tank cycle?
i though i'd ask befor i threw them away so if i can use them to help the tank cycle i'll be able to
i cleaned the entier tank from top to bottom
i used about 1/2 a cup of laundry soap to the whole 55 gallon tank then rinsed the tank for about 30 minutes will the tank be ok?
and i scaled the gravel in HOT water in the bath tub a couple times and cleaned the HOB fliter spotless
i know it killed all the bacteria but i mean the tank was infested with ick and various other things i'd rather kill ALL the bacteria then risk killing my fish
the brown gravel has to go i'll probly get some black gravel
also i'm having major problems with my pH it's like 6.0 from the tap
the water is soft like 75 i think
and the alkalinity is around 300
what should i do
no matter what i try the pH won't go up
i've tried chemical additives,buffers,everything
i herd mollies like a pH of 7.5-8.0:irked: :irked: :irked:
i've grown soft i think i may just put the 4 mollies from the 10 gallon into the 55 and get a few more and keep them in there and get bigger tanks for my various other fish plans
what can i do to raise the pH so my mollies will be happy and healthy?
they have about 1 heaping tablespoon per 5 gallons of water in their 10 gallon
it's not marine salt it's frm my sea salt grinder and mostly from some aquarium salt i bought
should i add sae salt mix???
they are swimming around and seem very happy but i want them to be deliriously happy while in my care "ok" and "fine" don't feed the bull dog when it comes to me i want my aqua babies to live a wonderful life.
what can i do to give them the best life possible
i've seached on there care and gotten no conistant answers like some say any pH over 6.0 is perfect for them, some say they are freshwater, some say brakish, whats the truth

I've never had mollies personally, so i wouldn't be the best person to answer that to be honest. I'm not gonna lie and act like I know b/c I don't want to give you bad advice. You're probably never going to get one straight definitive answer. Everybody's always going to say something slightly different pretty much. I cleaned out my 55 w/ Windex before and then put fish in it:WHOA:... and they did fine:D. Yeah, get rid of the brown gravel.
