I've posted an account of a non-crenicichla spawn over in the CA/SA cichlid section: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1707966#post1707966 . There is a pike in the tank where the spawning has occurred: my male Crenicichla acutirostris...so I'll just use him to sneak this in here. Since I spend all my time over here in the pike section, I just wanted to show off one of my other groups of fish. Take a look.

Thanks! Here's a full-tank shot:

The pair have taken the left side. To the right, you can see my acutirostis. The pike is not a threat: I had that pike in the tank when my spectabilis spawned, and it ignored the fry. Very cool customer. ;)

Nice looking tank!

The tank is a standard AGA 180. The background is a Pangea 3-D in-tank styro background. A little on the expensive side, a little bit of work, reduces space the fish can use, but looks fantastic.

They flee when they see me approach the tank with a tape measure (seriously), but my best estimate is a little over 10 inches. There's one in the tank that's several inches smaller than that, and one that's slightly larger than the rest.

Pretty cool! Congrats!!

I know I was completely stoked when mine bred. Have you gotten any fry yet?
