Are those reallly your gouramis??OMG!! They are beautiful! How long have you had them for?Mine look like smerfs compared to those 2, WoW! Ok, I will stop the meds and do the water changes as prescribed and start the meds again. My gourami seems to be getting better at this point, the dark spot that was on her head is gone now and her gill is looking a little healthier. I still feel badly that she is alone, I hope everyone will remember her when she gets back home. I think that the other female is lonely too. I tested the hospital tank for ammonia and it was at 0.25,I am a little concerned about the level when I leave the water alone for 5 days, will it be ok? Oh,and do I start the meds 2 days after the 50% change? is that right?

Yes those are really my Gourami's, I got them when they were 3 inches and I've had them now about 18 months the largest is 16+ and the smallest is 10+ inches. They eat a head of lettuce, a bunch of Basil and a ton of preium commerical fish foods and about 30 earth worms per week.
:headbang2

Ok yes 2 days after the second water change start re-medicating them, because of the nature of a hospital tank, filter or no filter the ammonia levels will raise faster than normally. Please try to limit food, so that all is consumed and non falls to the bottom. I trust that when you do water changes you are syphoning the water with a hose and you placing the hose at the bottom of the bowl. To help with removal of ammonia causing waste. If during treatment you still notice your ammonia levels in the hospital are raising you can do a 33% (2 gal) water change on the third day. This will assit with the water ammonia levels. But remember that while ammonia does stress fish and can become a killer, that it doesn't start to become a serious problem in a hospital tank until it's levels are 1.25 ppm in a small bowl like yours. But if you believe that your fish in stressing out from high ammonia levels then do the small change but try to hold off until the third day giving the medications time to build up in the fishes system. Also remember that some of this ammmonia is probably from the 29 gal.

Ok for starters STOP the medication! And do a 60% water change tomorrow and a 50% water change the next day, remember to use water from your 29gal to reill the water you take out of the 6gal. Wait 2 days, and then restart the medication without doing any water changes for the next 5 days straight. At the end of 5 days do a 60% water change, again using the water from the 29 to refill the 6gal, do another water change the same way the following day but this time change only 25~30% of the water using tap water. wait a day or so checking for any changes and if all seems well I would say you could return the fish to the 29gal then.

Why I say this: you have been half dosing your fish by way of doing water changes, and changing out 50% of the water and medication prior to adding more medication. The whole idea is to build up on the amount of medication in the fishes system. Instead your just strangthening the parasites ability to with stand the medication. Understand, you wanna shock and awe the parasites, not pasify them like we Americans do the English and their Moon Monkeys.

He is right, all your doing is water changing out the meds so they won't be working anywhere near as well as they could. Water change then start the meds again with no changes until the treatment is complete, then change. Most meds recommend 50% after treatment.

He's only jealous because he wants a moon monkey too;)

And I see he's missed the part out about them plotting and scheming against him by dive bombing the owner:ROFL:

So I need to wait 2 days after the 50% water change to start treating, I don't do anymore changes for a week then, correct? Unless of course the ammonia level gets to 1.25 and then do a 33% change and keep the temp at 80-82,am I on the right track? Yes,when I do my water changes I use my vaccum to suck up anything that was on the bottom. Sorry honey, but I don't have a 6 gal. fish bowl, ha ha. Its a reg. tank, but I am sure you know that, it just struck me funny for you to say bowl. Anyway I know that the rise of ammonia was not caused by my 29 gal. I tested before I put in the hospital tank. The reason it was starting to rise, was because I was feeding her 2 times a day instead of the normal 1 time. I guess I just wanted to be sure that she remained strong enough to handle the meds.,but I tell you what, when I fed her at night she darted around eating like she had not eaten for a week, so it makes me feel good to know she has not lost her appitite. I appreciate both of your help and thank you. I have another puzzle that needs to be solved with my gourami that is in the hospital. When I first got her everything looked very healthy, after a month I noticed a pin hole in her dorsal fin, then within a couple months it split. There is no redness or anything coming out from that area, but would like to know what could have caused it and if it will grow back together again.

YES, your on the right track.

Sorry bout the bowl comment, my hospital tank for my gourami if they ever need one now would be 180 gal. 6 gal just seemed like it would be a bowl.

"When I first got her everything looked very healthy, after a month I noticed a pin hole in her dorsal fin, then within a couple months it split".

Please watch the over feeding, in such a small space.

I have no idea what causes these things, sometimes over time they may grow it out but in most cases it's there for life. Or maybe on mine I just don't notice stuff like that anymore.

Yeah,I suppose it would seem like a bowl considering the monster size of tank and fish you have,. Yes I will make sure that I don't overfeed from now on,only once a day. Today is the 50% water change with a gravel vac. I put in the original bogwood pieces into my tank yesterday after I scrubbed them with a toothbrush and did a remodel of my tank, again!. I also still have one tblsp. of coral filtering,I hope all goes well. I just tested the ph and it is at 6.8(perfect),I hope it remains at that level and not all over the place. I wish there was a way to download a pic of my tank, but I do not know how and I do not have a digital camera, only on my phone.

For instruction on loading pics to this thread ask that crazy moon monkey keeper from England (Yanbbrox). Thats something he's better at explaining. But don't knock cell phone cam pics originally I used mine to post pics/vids of my Monster Beasts. And I always use it when fishing to video and take pics of the fish we catch before throwing them back. And I've posted some of those on a web page just gotta keep them small thats all.

OMG!! :nilly:The only reason I even soak driftwood in hot water, is to them waterlogged so they stay on the bottom. I would never scrub my pieces of driftwood especially as long as it took to get them covered in Java Moss.

And moon monkey keeper extraordinaire happily steps up to the plate...

2 things, get the images off the phone and then post them on to mfk:

1. You have a phone and clearly some sort on net access be it at work or home. Home is easier as you can install software if needed. If you've got the phone new then you should also have a usb datacable, if your phone has a memory card it should be a simple matter of plugging it in and windows will go 'hey, memory card installed'. Copy and paste the images from there, if you've got a BB3 nokia you'll need to install pc suite which won't work with your phone so you'll need to download the latest copy, I have know idea why nokia do this. Also running xp would be of help instead of vista.

Pm me with your phone make and model and I'll assist;) (click my user name and click send pm to yanbbrox)

2. posting pics to mfk is easy, instead of quick reply, click on 'go advance' and at the top the following(left to right can be seen)

crossed out 'A', font type, font size, font colour, simlies and to the right of that is the paper clip, click on that and a box will open up where you can browse for files and then click upload. Once up loaded you can insert them where you want by clicking the drop down menu next to the paperclip on the right, if you don't the pics will always appear at the bottom of your post.

PM me if your stuck to save cluttering up your thread more;) If you want to attach a video the only option is embeded from youtube which I've found easy to do, although my first tries FAILED, once done it's easy;)

Back on topic, what meds are you using?
Why did you scrub the wood with a toothbrush, hope it wasn't yours:nilly::nilly:

The bogwood you get over here will always sink, I just boil it to remove excess tannins, as the can leak like mad when first added. It goes on a slow release thing after boiling

I never worry bout tannins just throw the wood in the tank and I actually like the color it changes the water, makes it look more natural.

Anyway, now maybe you can show us a pic of your gourami :)

I didn't have any type of arrangement on my bogwood as of yet, I only brushed it to get out all of the dirt and debris that was encrusted in the nook and crannies. It was gawd awful filty!:yuck: No! I didn't use my own toothbrush, I used my mothers!, just kidding! Thanks for the info. on the downloading I will give it a whirl tomorrow and see if I can accomplish the task. Not knocking the cell pics, that is all I have for now, and it will do just fine for me, as long as I can manage the technical difficulties. Thanks Moon Monkey Keeper, I'll take you up on that if I run into some sort of problem. The med. that I am currently using is the Jungle Lifegaurd All-In-One. I don't know if thats the best, but I am not too familiar what treatment works well with dwarf gouramis, so I just went with that one, especially when I was not sure of what was going on with her. What I do know is the brownish black speck on the top of her head is gone and her gill is looking alot more healthier and she is rampaging around in the tank. Good sign? I hope.
