Is it just me or do most gouramis give the impression of being peaceful fish based on appearance only? That's just to say, if you didn't already know it, wouldn't you assume they would be passive community fish? They don't really look evil to me but they are so often kings of the tank!

looks can be deceiving put a couple males together and you'll have a title bout for sure always make sure the lfs will take bake the agressors some times the only way you can tell is by trying them out mine are ok as long as theres no krill or something meaty in the water they go crazy!!!

i had three at one time. the largest of the three killed one of smaller and was on his way to killing the other. surprised the hell out of me for some reason i was under the impression they were a peaceful community fish. :jaw-dropp

correct me if i'm wrong but i thought the blue is a 3 spot or is that the lfs screwing up again??
Not so much the lfs messing up as there being well established strains of the species.
Here are the ones that I have seen for sale.
Blue, three spot, two spot, golden, silver, opaline, cosby, and marbled, all of these are variants of one species the Trichogaster tricopterus. If bred back together the strains rapidly go back to looking like wild three spots.
