I see a lot of people saying that it should be illegal to sell Arapiamas because of there size or redtail catfish should require a permit which shows the purchaser has a large enough tank.

Will you support a law regulating the sale of large fish? Either it be a ban or permit requirements. What kind of laws will you suggest? I think there should be laws based on conservation status not size. I think the government regulates enough and once you start with size who knows where it will go from there. Soon the NSA will conducting raids on people who house fish in small tanks.

I would support a law regulating the sale of arapaima and red tails because its a disgusting thing to see fish such as these in grossly inadequate housing. I personally say they shouldn't be offered for sale at all but that's just me. I say you should at least prove you have adequate housing. When I worked at a animal shelter and we had snakes or larger lizards we required the person price they had adequate housing. Wether that be a picture or a home check. These fish shouldn't be any different

No. IMO, the last thing we need is another government agency trying to find ways to justify its own existence by regulating our lives. I'm all for vendors taking responsibility for where their fish go, but a government agency? No way in hell.

there should atleast be something in place to where they need to show proof of proper sized tank but once that is put in place there is a chance the government will go overboard with it and require it for other fish also even ones that dont get as big. so the question is do we want them to regulate those and risk that they might do it for all fish or do we leave the problem as it is

Government regulation would be a bad thing I agree, but I do think there should be some form of regulation on these fish to provide proper homes. I have no tolerance for animal cruelty and allowing these fish to live and die in way to small tanks is blatant cruelty. But then people would get them some other illegal way and the cycle would continue. I personally these should have never been offered in the first place

Personally these mega cats, pacus and arapima should not be offered to the public. No matter how hard we educate the public, the problems are still here. If the fish got too big, they might will release them into a nearby lake or river.

Almost sounds as if you are contradicting yourself in the above statement...

So the question is, if you don't want the government to regulate? Who the heck will regulate those LFS, who doesn't have any care for the mega fish whether if it live or die?

For reference those are 12" tiles. Unless you have somthing this big if not bigger you shouldn't have an arapima. These fish are actually for sale at a lfs near me. There are huge rtc in here not shown in pic

Hey where were those shots taken..looks like the tank in a store in Philly?
