It's my opinion: ((OK???))

The Government should make a move about those people who are establishing LFS, more likely for them to have a test, means of knowledge regarding the field of their business, additionally there should be regular quarterly checkups regarding the LFS's condition if it's good or not, regular traffic of fish must be also monitored.

Also, if a LFS owner doesn't have adequate knowledge regarding fishkeeping, the LFS won't be given a permit to enter the business... It's the same with driver's license, why would anyone give you some wheels to drive if you're not licensed to drive, likewise, why would anyone make you sell fish if you don't know anything about fish. Equipment must also be a must for them to have and maintained accordingly.

Education of the future hobbyist also will chime in, there must be a information sheet about the fish they're gonna keep, cycling tanks, filtration and everything, if they wanna do this then they would eventually gonna bump into that sphere so basically it would be preferable to have those things rather than sorry, ooops, my pet fish is invasive it took our local river and destroyed the Eco system. Proper housing and everything must be also a must before they go and buy. I found it odd to see that people would research about their dogs, have the certificates, go to vets, have a walk with dogs, but doesn't care to swim with piranhas, kiddin, and have the fish arena as below standard way of pet keeping.

^ The answer would be because fishkeeping is not popular as cats and dogs, I love them both tho...

I know, it's so "ideal" it won't happen.

I vote for self disapline/regulation and fish ethics. Of course, there are tons of nutshells who lack this.

can't win for losing. Too much ignorance, and too many idiots that don't care.
I guess it comes down to which is more important, the fish's well being or your wanting to keep them.
I really hate to say regulation, but until we get out of a "for profit" mindset on everything...
:cry:bring on the laws.

How is a business supposed to operate outside the "for profit" mindset?

No. IMO, the last thing we need is another government agency trying to find ways to justify its own existence by regulating our lives. I'm all for vendors taking responsibility for where their fish go, but a government agency? No way in hell.

Couldn't have said it better lol.

It seems to me that if the people here on this forum can't even agree on what the minimum tank size should be for the fish we keep, can you even imagine what kind of standards the government would set?
