Here is a topic, were I may get yelled at or cursed at? I hope not, as I have never experianced any disrespect, nor given it, on this site. Ciclasoma sp. grammods. I believe some call it "Mexican Flag" Cichlid? I guess if you look close, there is some "green", white and red?? Honestly I think it is a silly name. I am sure there are other common names for it, anyone care to share those?? I am a biologist, which means squat, but I have never really favored common names, since many apply to more than one fish. Some work, like Oscars, and even "wolf Cichlid" for the dovii, which is a contributer to where I am going with all this. Again I prefer the use of the sceintific (taxonomic) name, but if we are going to use common names, should we not have better ones than some that we now use? In an article I once read, it stated that the grammodes, is like a smaller version of a dovii. If you look close, there are many similarities?? To get to the point, a dovii is commonly reffered to as "wolf" cichlid, and if the grammodes looks like a smaller dovii, would the name of "wolverine" cichlid be better than Mexican Flag Cichlid, or any other? Many of you may just have rolled your eyes. I am not a fan of Xmen or comics, but to me it sounds better, tougher? A wolverine and a wolf are not of the same Taxonomic Family, but of the same Order (Carnivore), so it kinda makes scense to me. Again, this may sound silly, but it has been in my head for a couple of years, and thought I would bring it up. By the way, nothing against the real Mexican flag. For those who have met me know that I am of Mexican descent. Any thoughts on this odd subject?
