Just got a trio like last week. Is it me or the grammodes are extremely skittish. Anybody else encounter that problem?

Camphilophus has one and has alot of knowledge on them. I had one once about 12 years ago and don't remember much about him except for his color and that yeah he seemed skiddish.

If im not mistaken they can be aggressive too.

I can see the aggressiveness in the male already. My 4in female dovii is in there with them and he tries to bully her but she gives it right back. For me usually about a day for the new fish to come around. These guys bolt as soon as i get near the tank.

Yeah seems like most "new" fish always take a few days to get used to us. I alway keep going in front of the tank so they have to get used to me LOL it does work!

My new Frontosa is still kinda skiddish but after the first time when I get home he calms down then doesn't care.

yeah the female grammy's come out more than the male does. the female dovii doesnt mind me at all. if anything she comes in for a closer look to see me.

when do they start getting their nice colors?

Yes, grammys can be skittish. Cichlids that are skittish are eased by open water swimmers such as Tinfoil barbs and Silver dollars. My grammys do just fine with these fish present.

from what i know about them (i wanted them a while back so researched alot)
they grow relatively slowly and until they get about 7" they are quiete shy fish once they hit that mark they turn really aggresive.
they are also known as Mini-Dovii for the obvious reasons.
you have any pics of yours =)?

i do. there is a thread i posted last week with the pics but they suck. they wouldnt really come out. plus didnt want to put the light on to stress them more. i will post new ones probably tonight.

Neither my female or male is skittish. They're not necessarily the most outgoing fish either though....just not hiders. It's as if I'm not even there with them.
