Yeah I'd love to see him without the flash washing out all the color. I think you need more overhead lighting and take the pic with the flash off.

ok will try that tonight. when i have the tank light on, i can see all of his blue color in his fins. really nice. also need a better camera. been taking pics with the cannon elph powershot sd630. only got 6.0 mega pixels

i also just got a female dovii from don conkel. she has some great coloring. but cant take a nice pic. will try what you told me. thanks

The shyness/skittishness is a common problem if they're kept solitary! I have a pair that I have kept together, by themselves, for the better part of 7 months! They hide behind flowerpots, sponge filters, filters, etc. when I come into the room. But the minute I leave, they cruise the tanks and flare up at opposing fish in other aquariums! Just in the last week they spawned and there are a couple hundred wigglers in a flowerpot.... you would think they would become territorial and protect the fry... not a chance! They swim away instantly leaving the fry! I plan on moving them out into a tank with some other community fish and see if they'll do better....

Forgot to mention I also have a smaller 4" pair that I keep with a colony of large frontosas.... they are not as shy and will cruise their respective sides of the tank. Female Grammode is on the left side, Male Grammode is on the right side..... they meet in the middle to liplock and fight then flee back to their respective sides! Obviously not a bonded pair yet.
