Anyone feeding their non FH cichlids Grand Sumo? Any thoughts on the matter, I just picked up a container of grand sumo red to feed to my male dovii @ 5".
no they wont. food wont make a fish "become" red...it might enhance red/orange fish that already have the color in their genetics but it wont make a fish red that isnt already by nature.
Actually Im worried about the same but just in the case of my silver aro, dont know if she cant develop drop eye or something because of the grand or red sumo
Well I feed my dovii red sumo and I feed him massivore.. I once grew a fish out on sinking carnivore and the growth was amazing.. and I hear that fh people swear by grand sumo for a staple so I'm trying to mix it up.. just trying to make this guy look his best.. as for drop eye with your arow that has to do with the fish focusing on stuff below the water level, I don't believe it has to do with the food as long as its not a sinking type pellet.
Seems like a beefed up version of Hikari Cichlid Gold. They both carry astaxanthin (their source of red pigment for boosting colors in fish), but Hikari doesn't have "fortified" omega fatty acids [There should be natural amounts of omega acids from the fish meal]. I would just buy some omega fatty acids at WalGreens and spray it on fish food you already own (would be a lot cheaper).
Sumo or "Red" Sumo is mainly made for FH. I have never tried it with other non FH cichlids. But as far as results goes for the Sumo in my own experience, it works quite good to bring out the bright coloration enhancement of the fish. The red sumo, and yes it is what as how it is named. Red Sumo is popular among using these for FH that develop a bright red coloration, this will promote a brighter scenery to a red color fish.
I feed my 187g grand sumo green growth as part of the staple mix and throw in some sumo red every now and then. Tank has cichlids couple large most small, bunch of silver dollars, and a thai silk fh.
My pickier eaters don't like the sumo red much. Green is gobbled up with the most enthusiasm. FH and SD's eat anything though too.
