Grass pickerel Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I haven't kept n. longears, but their close cousins the central longears and dollars can be pretty aggressive. Redpots are milder but may still be too active for the pickerel. I kept a pickerel with a warmouth for some time, they seemed to do well together. They have very similar personalities.

The warmouths that I have had were similar in personality to green sunfish which is way to aggressive.

Individuals vary of course, but in my experience warmouth are skulkers. They hit prey items hard but are shy around fish their own size.

what tank size would you need for a few (3 MAYBE 4) grass pickerel for life? Been pondering a 96"x48"x24" Plywood tank would that work if I build it?

That would be plenty big!
Oh kick A! Will they breed in aquariums?
Probably gonna build it then. I was thinking that or a big above ground plastic pool, but ill prob build the ply tank instead.

I have 2 pickerels Grass and Redfin, in a 125 with 2 brown bullheads and 2 yellow perch. They all get along just fine

Yeah I though about bullhead as well but I will want my pickerel to be way bigger and in a bigger tank before I give it a try. As the other bullheads ive had chewed on there tank mates fins.
