I have old gravel but thought about doing sand as a change. Any thoughts
the only thing i will ever use again in my life is sand or barebottom soooooooooo much easer to clean and better looking imo

Gravel can hold more crap if you dont vacuum regularily, and lower water quality.

On the other hand I feel sand is harder on the filtration since alot waste gets sucked straight into the filter which can lower water quality also.

It depends on the fish for me, diggers and very small fish get sand in there tank. Large messy fish get gravel. Theres just something satisfying about gravel vacuuming and seeing all the waste flow in to the bucket.

I prefer a thin layer of sand over gravel anyday ;)

What kind of fish do you have? I have sand in all my tanks and like it mainly for the look. I agree with others though it depends on what you have. If you have bottom feeders sand is better if you have big fish like oscars like mine who like to get mouth fulls of sand and spit it everywere you would probably be best with gravel.
