I just set up my 65g today with play sand from Home Depot. I really like the colors in it, different shades of tan with black specs in it. I think some of the cloudy problems are do to not rinsing the sand properly before placing it in the tank. The sand I purchased today was cloudy when I was rinsing it, but I just kept washing it til it got clear. I put the siphon to it and very little sand was picked up, only the very fine particles, and even those were just kinda floating in the siphon. My GT was messing with his new sand and the sand just settled without any clouds. I guess it all depends on the sand itself.

Sand + lots of flow + calculated filter positioning = tank always looking fresh.

Had gravel in 150gallon changed to Black Tahitian moon sand in new 300 gallon ,, love it ,, Looks great , sets fish colors off and a lot easier to clean ,, never go back to gravel
I have black sand, looks good when clean, dosen't stay clean for long with big fish, I will switch to gravel whe I move
