Great Thread to show how a bio reactor works!!

Interesting. How would the efficiency of these compare to a fluidized bed filter (sand filter)? Moving bed filter would be an eye sore to me if kept in the main tank, but in a sump would be nice.

wow thats pretty cool. does it help with nitrates trev??

No it will not help with nitrates...nitrates need to be removed by water changes or massive plant growth.

I have recently added threads about deltec reactors dosed with vodka and ion exchange resins but it have gone over to a 30gal daily drip.

I have been playing with k1 to get it moving in the first chamber of my sump, I have also been helping a friend with his discus sump but we are trying it without the noise of air and trying normal pumps and gravity fed inlet from the main tank.

I prefer this to fluidized sand bed as the sand can block over time.

thats the filtration under my main tank.mine is set-up in a 6x2x2 sump with (4) 50micron socks ahead of the media with a bunch of air stones under the kaldnes media..i also have 2 aqua-ultraviolet 1000g model bead filters running with it as well.i have been running this for nearly a year now and wish i could convert all my tanks to this..it works quite well with a very heavy bio-load..

Actually I think it could help with Nitrates. The moving media is less likely to collect detritus staying cleaner and as a result keeping nitrates lower. I know the main reason I have any Nitrates in my 150 is because my pot scrubbers collect so much detritus.

Maybe Trev can confirm my suspicions
