What?!?!?! Saying that Freebird isn't a good song is like saying that a tigrinus is an ugly catfish, or that Koenigseggs are ugly and slow, or that arapaimag's tanks are tiny and understocked.:eek::eek:
I didn't say it was bad its just not great. I grew up in Jacksonville where you have to like Skynyrd.
And for Queen I'd go with Killer Queen for their best, or maybe We will Rock You, that solo is amazing with all the little mutes and slides between each chord. Brian May is pretty awesome.

This thread needs some SRV. You can skip to 1:00 but you should just watch the whole thing.
Sorry I cant stand SRV, to me he's just a (much) less talented Hendrix. All I ever hear him play is Blues standards and Hendrix covers. If I wanted that theres plenty of guys in hotel bars and cheesy restaurants doing the same thing.

I have had this song stuck in my head since I first listened to it in the OP.

Floods and 10's by Pantera. I never noticed this before either, but the bass on the intro of Floods is incredible. The tone is so eery and just fits the whole song so well. It took me 20 listens before I even heard it, but damn whatever rex was doing he was doing something right.

what, nothing by Colin Marston? I know most is pretty new and he doesn't usually play a regular guitar, but...

great songs and solos, though

That goes back to the whole listenability thing. There are a bunch of guys out there doing really technically impressive stuff but with no semblence of melody. A lot of newer Death Metal is like that, I hear it and think "wow that guys pretty good", then I turn it off.
