Green algae scum

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
With the new light cycle and limited excess food, there is almost no additional algae. Snails are cleaning up the rock and sand nicely. There was some growth but alot less than the last few days

Day two everythign seems to be ok. Wiped down the glass and almost no algae. Water parameters all normal...

Thanks for all the help guys.

When do you think I can return to a "normal" light cycle? And is it ok to have it split up i.e. 4 hrs in the am and 4 hrs at night?

I would slowly return to the full light cycle. Make it an hour or two longer each week and see how the algae growth increases.

Ok. I'm running one hr in am and 3 in pm right not. Soi'll keep it like this all week and msybe by sat i'll add a few hrs

Looks like all the algae is gone. Even the remnants that was on the glass has disappeared. I am going to maintain the 10,000k/actinic light cycle at 4 hours a day but I am going to try to use my lunars again. Those will run all the time. I hope everything stays ok

Lunars shouldn't affect the algae much, if any.

Glad to here everything is getting better.

Nice glad to hear that the tank is looking good! What are your water parameters looking like? Also, how is the clown doing?

I tested the tank yesterday. pH was at 7.8 (i added pH up) and eveything else was 0ppm! So glad about that. Clown is well, seems to swim against the glass alot but seems healthy. I a couple blue legged crabs today, as well as a goby so that should keep the excess nutrient level down. Thanks for every ones help!

Congrats! Hopefully the tank continues to cycle without a hitch. How long has it been set up for now?
