Here's Dad winning 1st place in the "Cichlasoma over 6" " class at Aquafest a couple of months ago...Picture is by Mike Hill.

He's a wild fish from Lake Nicaragua.

He's about 67 degrees in a bare show tank... so not happy... but you get the idea...

He's a brute Matt.
Lovely looking fish these, yet they dont attract much interest over here in the UK. Ive had a group of 6 F1's for nearly 3 years now, ive found them to be a smashing species to keep, and have had no probs with them at all.
I think a few people may be put off by their juvenile colouration, and dont realise the potential this species can attain as adults, apparent in yours and Diogenes pictures.

Heres a pic of my biggest male 7"

They're great fish - kind of like a larger green and gold rainbow cichlid.

I find that demand for them ebbs and flows. I've liked them since the mid-80's so when I saw that Rapps had some wild ones from Lake Nicaragua I couldn't resist.

I sold the last couple of F1 pairs that I had recently. Might need to let them make more soon :)

I totally agree with you here mate. They are just like rainbows.
I removed my male to another tank once due to him uncharacteristically being over aggressive. Once in this new tank he turned bright orange. I posted some pics on CRC and one person actually thought he was a rainbow/ cent hybrid!!! Heres some shots of him at 6"

woah orange fliers!! that's sick. I love these fish. Before these guys I had a black piranha, and it was cool, but these guys are so much more interesting. They've got tons of personality, they're just stunning to look at, and they make babies at least once a month if the fry are taken out of the tank. I couldn't be more pleased.

I even named them...Heloise and Abelard. Yes, I am that kind of geek. =)
