hi Jill,
i have a pair of JDs. i just got the female last friday and they are trying to spawn at the best of my knowledge. i have three flat slate rock in the tank with them but read that you use 8'' ceramic pots. my female is about 6'' and will fit into the pot fine but my male is about 10-11'' he is a brute. i was wondering if he could even fertilize the eggs in the pot if i got one or will they lay on the flat slate fine and be fertilized
thank you for your time cant wait to see what you have to say

Hello Dial92

I think it's great that you are trying to pair-up your big l\/lonster male JD with the new female you picked up. As for the 8" ceramic pots that I used in this project. The size was picked for the size of the pairs I was spawning. So for your pair you should get a couple of 12" or 14" ceramic pots & place them @ both ends of the tank. The slate rocks you have can work too, but I use the pots because it gives them an enclosed area.

I have some vids you can check on my youtube channel that I will open later to give you an idea on the spawning process.
Good luck with your project & if you have any questions you can always PM me.

- Jill ;)

no thread to be opened never going to be :(. this is so because today the female looked like she was starting to have ick so i put her in the hospital tank. i treated her and then left for the rodeo. got back at midnight and she had jumped out and shriveled up on the floor. i am almost sick to my stomach and cant sleep. RIP my shortly had female that was not around long enough for a name. :(
