Ive got a GSP that wont eat the small snails I throw in the tank. Ive had him for few months and ive only see him even pickup a few. I dont want him to develope beak problems so im wondering if there are other options of things I could try feeding him that would help keep his beak down?

Thanks in advance

Feeding Your Puffer

try something that is frozen, like a block of beefs heart.

Do not feed frozen food to any fish! Beefheart is not a natural food for a puffer. You might want to read that link I gave.

^^^doesnt solve the beak problem though

But foods in that article does... :screwy:

What you feed them dosn't solve the beak problem, it only prolongs the amount of time between trimming.

good thing trimming is not hard, thanks to Pufferpunk's articles.. read em.

Thanks! :D There are very few species that should need regular beak trimming, in spite of what you feed them. If fed enough variety of crunchy foods, most puffers will never need to have their beak hand-trimmed by it's owner. Once a puffer's beak is overgrown however, there is no other choice. No amount of crunchy foods will help & may actually cause the beak to break off & then the puffer can't eat at all.
