Can't tell as well from out of water.

This is mine from the side:

They can be much more vivid when breeding.

None of the definite females I've seen look like that. But like I said, I don't breed them so I'm not sure if that's a completely valid way to sex them. If mine dig a nest and try to spawn I figure I have a male, lol.

1 inch fish would DEFINATELY NOT be safe from a fish that size. 2" fish MIGHT depending on the species and the greens personality. A higher bodied species like another sunfish MIGHT be safe if he's not hungry but a skinnier two inch minnow would get eaten fast. Mine will scarf down 3 inch minnows.

Thats a beautiful specimen!!

Thanks.

I like to think part of the reason he looks so good is because of the diet.
I don't even wanna know if it's not true because that expensive Hikari better be doing SOMETHING

Hikari pellets, shrimp, silversides, and krill among other things. Ours is pretty much a floating garbage can. Not really agressive either as long as the others leave him alone.

Here is my green. 7.5"

You've asked many questions about sunfish. Before you come on in two days and ask about the diet of pumpkinseeds, you can consider all Lepomis sp. similar in diet when they are of a similar size.

all my green sunfish eat goldfish pellets, shrimp pellets, worms, mealworms, feeder fish, and all types of other stuuf i happen to throw in there, my fish range from 2-5" and they will eat almost anything that will fit in there mouths

hey sandtiger; is it(from left) pumpkinseed, green, rock bass?

how did they acclimate to the tank at first?

You're correct o nthe rock bass and green but the other fish is a longear sunfish, though there is also a pumpkinseed in there. They all acclimated fine, IIRC the all were eating dry foods the same day I got em.

Hey what's IIRC?
do you dried foods float? Since my bloodworms do..Will adult bluegill actually take freezedried bloodworms that are floating? Should I try feeding them in the morning and evening(when the wild ones are going for topwaters)

Once aday is good enough just dont over feed them and a variety of food will keep their colors bright and healthy and live food will keep their predatory instincts active its always fun to watch them chase down prey, dont worry about experimenting you wont know till you try.
