Just wanted to get opinions from people that actully own GT's or JD's.... Are they really as aggressive as they are made out to be??? i hear conflicting info. How well would each fish mix with fish such as oscars, ghost knifes, clown loaches and severums?

from my experience, its a yes and no. Most adult GT are super agressive though.
it's all in the fish and it's tank mates.

overcrowding in a BIG tank could help.

I agree with this except I am not a fan of overcrowding. I prefer to use dithers.

I actually own 2 GTs and a JD in the same tank and have previously had GTs and JDs together. My experience is that GTs tend to be more aggressive and JDs tend to be more defensive. If you can keep them the same size and give lots of places to hide you should be ok to keep them together. They are both definitely interesting fish although the GT aggression is more evident.

I've never seen a JD band the glass but a GT I have.

I own a JD and he has a bad attitude, and it makes it hard to keep anything with him. I just gave My GT away but he was a very down to earth fish.

I have a jd and somtimes he's aggressive when my bichirs go in his cave. If he strikes a smaller fish it can be deadly even if he doesn't eat them. I've seen him rip gills out of feeders and leave them to die. But for the most part he's calmed down as long as he's fed and has his own cave.

I think it comes down to each individual fish and their personality. I have a few JD's and only recently now that two paired off has the male become aggressive toward other tankmates. I have a female GT in the same tank and she is a sweetheart, never seen her pick on any other fish.

I second that.

Had an 8" male GT in a 120 all by himself and it looked lonely, so I added a 6" severum to entertain him. Well, the severum took over the tank and forced the GT to stay in a corner.

In general GTs and JDs are moderately aggressive, but it really comes down to individual fish.

Same... I have seen BIG green terrors living with Jaguars, midas, etc, but I have seen Gt's live with dempseys, sevs, and oscars well.

I had my Gt in with an oscar, a black belt, an argentea, clown loaches, and jags. It all worked pretty well.

Every fish is different. In general though GT's are a lot more aggressive the JD's. I know ton's of people that keep severums, oscars, and JD's together. Several have tride a GT with there mix and it never worked out. I think a JD would most likely work with your fish though. Just get a young one and grow it up with them.

Just as an example. I keep a silver saum pair in with herichthy's and amphilophus types and my male silver saum even chases them some. He is very aggressive. JD's are more territorial to one small spot then really aggressive.

I hear GTs are fine with Oscars... so I guess that means they can hold their own against an Oscar. As my Oscar, when only 2.5 inches, ripped the fins off of my 4inch Blue Phantom Pleco, then proceeded to beat it to death. Serves the Pleco right though, he was always picking on my Oscar. If a GT or JD is just as agressive as that, then it should be some interesting stuff :)
