I used to have a 5 inch EBJD that beat my similarly sized GT almost to death...compatibility always depends on the personality of the fish in my experience. If you raise them from a very small size together seems to have the highest success rate to me....

I had a GT that was the most aggressive fish I ever had in my 17 years of keeping fish. It was a glassbanger that killed EVERY fish I put in the tank with him. I also had a couple of large oscars and 1 JD that lived well until I added another JD and they paired up. The harmony in my tank ceased to exist. JD's are very territorial especially when breeding. good luck

I have to agree with everyone who said that it depends on the personality of the fish. My JD is very aggressive and I cannot keep any other fish with her. While my GT is very passive. Granted I have only had my GT for a little less than 2 months and he is a juvie. He use to get along really well with my convict until she spawned for the first time and now she dominates the tank, and my GT does his best to stay out of her way. The one exception to this is that he becomes very aggressive when it's feeding time, but when food isn't involved he is a complete push over.

That's what it boils down to, each fish has it's own personallity. Generally speaking GTs and JDs are middle of the road compaired to some of the big hitters like Rds ect. You can get one that's very aggro and one that's pretty mellow. Also tank size has somthing to do with it given a big enough tank where each has plenty of room to clame and hold it's own terratory it's all good, crowd the together and all hell breaks lose. The answer is who knows given any set of curcumstances what you'll end up with.

My GT and my JD are both about 2.5 in long they will fight and lip lock and the GT will always lose. The only fish he really picks on are the smaller GT group I have so I can get a female. I think it boild down to the fish as well as how the GT was raised ie. with other fish or not.

I think it comes down to each individual fish and their personality.

Absolutely! I've owned both JD's and GT's and neither of them were the most aggressive of the fish I had.

My experience with tankmates is that if they are all young (whatever you add) and not small enough to be eaten, they grow up ok together. This has held true with other cichlid varieties for me too.

Every fish is different. In general though GT's are a lot more aggressive the JD's. I know ton's of people that keep severums, oscars, and JD's together. Several have tride a GT with there mix and it never worked out. I think a JD would most likely work with your fish though. Just get a young one and grow it up with them.

Just as an example. I keep a silver saum pair in with herichthy's and amphilophus types and my male silver saum even chases them some. He is very aggressive. JD's are more territorial to one small spot then really aggressive.

As said, every fish is different and you can only generalize. The above quote is fairly accurate.

I have a GT, its a big baby!

GTs and JDs (had a JD b4) are no where as aggressive as: midas, trimacs, festae, jags, etc....

I have a 12" male GT in a 150gal with 2 Jags a Tex, Sev and a CK.
The GT doesn't get messed with but he isn't to aggressive towards the others accept every now and then when he will snap and chase another fish around the tank once and then they will swim around ass if nothing happened again but saying that i would say they are a bit more aggressive than Oscars.
