The key is that the Oscar needs to be much larger than the GT. I would also get them in a larger tank. For those two full grown I would say atleast 100 gallons. Once they are in a larger tank some dither fish might help with the aggression too. You also may want to think about getting a divider for if things still get messy. This combination should work though as long as the oscar starts out larger than the GT and as long as you have enough space. You also may want to try adding the Oscar to the larger tank first, and then adding the GT later. Hope that helps.

GT's are easily bullied when small and oscars like to be bullies if they can. GT's can handle themselves with less aggro tankmates of a similar size but the minute anything gives it a beating the GT will hide. getting larger oscars would probably make your GT become shy and stop eating.
i agree that adding the oscars first may work out better though, but having larger O's would likely lead to trouble.

A recent setup i did had a GT, Tiger and Albino Oscars with the same result, the GT bullied the Tiger to death but completely ignores the Albino. The tiger was smaller than the GT at the time but always out and active, the Albino used to always hide until the Tiger died. The Albino is now the same size as the GT and they are often out in the middle together with no sign of aggression.

I think i remember many years ago with a different GT i put a pair of Tigers in with it and it bullied both of those into hiding all the time and not eating, but didn't kill them. Maybe GT's just have a thing about Tigers?

Yes, I will move them in a larger tank soon.. But not as larger as a 100..:( It's just a 75..:( Maybe I need to buy a 100G tank for them?

I bought an oscar which is the same size as the gt because I know that oscars grow alot faster than GTs...

Wow buddha, that's a nice looking oscar!:D Maybe GTs do really hate tiger oscars but don't care much about albino oscars.. Wierd, I never even thought that they could even see in color...LOL

Well one thing is sure, I not going to buy another tiger.. I hate to see them get killed..:( They are such lovely fishes...

I have a GT and 2 tiger O's in a 75 gallon. I had the 3 in a 29 gallon while the 75 was cycling. in the 29 the GT was always picking on one of the Oscars but not the other, he never did much damage to him since both Oscars would gang up on his and attack him back. Now they are in the 75 Gallon, the GT which is about 5.5" and the Oscars are just over 6" each. I also have a 2" convict and a 2" jack dempsey in there with them. The GT doesn't fight with the Oscars any more but now often get beat on by the little 2" Convict. the GT went from Owning the tank to being the weaker fish and is often hiding from the Convict now.

I have two G.T.s only about 2'' . One is very docile while the slightly larger one in very aggressive towards everyone. The funny thing is that the only fish that bullies him back is my smallest EBJD which is only 1.5''

In a larger tank with more shelter you might have more success. Even if they are 2.5", in a 35 the gt can get very territorial, especially if the oscars dont have anywhere to hide. Oscars also grow faster than gt, so if you get a bigger oscar you might eventially end up with a dead gt.

An Oscar, a.k.a., Velvet Cichlid, doesn't have a chance against an aggressive GT. I don't care how big the tank or how many hiding spots you have. It depends on the temperment of the GT, but if he wants to kill an oscar he can. Just compare the physical characteristics, the GT is built for battle.

not to sure of that in the past all my gts were bullied or killed by oscars, the one i have now will not go head to head with my oscar at all if the oscar is in a bad mood he stays out of the way,i have seen him bully the silver dollars and even the pleco,i would say maybe because the oscar out grew him they were the same size when i got them,he would only fight the tiger and would run from the albino(dont know what that is about)but they get along fine now as long as the oscar rules the tank

I've been posting this all day on this topic but here it is again. I had 2 12"+ Oscars with a 6" GT (that was 1" when I put in with Oscars a years ago) in a 125g tans. He had been harassing the Oscars for a couple weeks and they were starting to get pretty beat up. Then last week he finally killed one. We found him bashing in to the dead O repeatedly and the other O was hiding. We put the remaining Oscar 75g with a ton of little fish until we could move the GT. We expected half of the little ones we put the O in with to be gone in the morning but the last thing we wanted was the O to be killed also. To our surprise the O didn't bother a single fish just sat on the bottom like he was in mourning. I've since moved the GT to a 20g (temp) and the O back to the 125g. I guess some GT's just don't like Oscars, or any other fish either. I'm just really sad because that Oscar was so big and beautiful and now the other one is all alone.
