There are many factors in determining the growth rate of fish. Water, feeding, the parents, etc. I say just enjoy him since you have a great looking fish.

Oh yeah, I totally enjoy him. I have plenty of patience I'm not in a hurry for him to get huge. Half the fun of fish keeping is growing your fish up from juvies and watching them grow. I was fully aware of how slow growing GTs are before I got one. I was just curious about how long it took.

reminds me of mine.
i got him about may'ish last year, he was about 1.5-2" like all yours, and now hes pushing 6.5"+ easy.
He's extremely trusting and cool, and always bites my finger when i stick it in there. Probly because he thinks its food.

i've had my green terror fry since aug 2010 and its almost feb 2011 now, and its only grown about half an inch
i do weekly water changes and i feed them a variety of foods like pellets, flakes, frozen, etc.
frustrating as hell!!!

Hey nice GT.

I'm sorry to inform you this, since i assume you would like your GT to grow large.
But it appears that your GT is one from the "Short-body" bred lines, and will most likely peak at 7" TL.

Personally i think he looks great, and would love to have one like yours, i just thought you should know.

I could be wrong though, but i am fairly confident i am right in this case.

Im just a little curios but my GT is a really picky eater is that what yall have experienced? seems like mine only really likes flakes! And it will eat half a rosy red when it gets treated !

I would stop using feeders.
Read below and use the type of diet descriped there. A quality pellet as the staple Hakari Bio-Gold+, NLS Thera +A and some skinned peas, veggie wafers and you can treat occasionally with worms and shrimp/krill. I must have written this twenty times already so I'm not going to do it again here. A good diet and plenty of water changes and you'll have a beautiful, healthy GT.

I Do a 30% water change twice a week, and feed him a varied diet consisting of Hikari & Omega one cichlid pellets, veggie flakes, skinned peas and Lima beans, algae wafers, blood worms, ghost shrimp, and earthworms as well as other things. Mostly I feed him the pellets, wafers, and peas. Mixing the various other things in now and then.

That's a great diet and you fish is stunning. I don't think it looks like a short body, just a stocky male. Great job keep it up, he is really good looking.

It could be a short bred line but it doesnt look like it..... it just doesnt seem right for a gt to grow only 2.5'' in a year min grew from 2'' to about 7'' maybe more in just a year...
