Green Terror/Gold Saum

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
great pick up. they're my favorite fishes. Once they get comfortable they'll start to chase you around and try to bite you through the glass. as far as growth rate goes mine grew from a fry to about 6 inches in 7 months.

Petsmart = gold saum

Both true and saums are part of the Aquendis riveltus (spelling is probably way off) species complex (unless this has changed recently). Saums are awesome have fun.

they are part of the Aequidens, but not all are rivulatus. Btw there are 3 different species with the common name GT.

If it has gold tipped fins then its a gold saum. white tipped then its a white saum. more than likely it isnt a "true green terror" but at the same time thats what distributors have been calling them for quite some time so whos to say that saums arent actually "green terrors"? Are they not green? Are they not somewhat menacing towards other not overly aggresive fish? IMO they are green terrors because they are green and they can be terrors in the aquarium.

the only difference I know of between gold and silver saums is the color of the fin. I thought they were the same species.

Yes gold saum. But sometimes Jeff Rapps gets some in time to time. The true GT are found in peru.

No one knows if the gold, silver, or red are the same species with regional color variants or three differant species until a scientists takes a look at these orphaned fish. I assume the dwarf green terror is deffinately a differant species, or man made (not talking about the short bodied saums).

You're forgetting there is a silver saum, a gold saum, and a different fish all together from peru which has sliver like the saum and that I, Rapps, and several others refer to as the true green terror

Well, I was responding to the post about the silver and gold saums being the same species. :grinno:

But I believe the riv and true green terror to be the same species, based on the comments/observations of old timers that kept them back when they were first imported and now. Doesn't mean there aren't other undescribed species in the riv complex though. The whole thing is a mess and I hope Kullander or someone addresses the blue acara group soon!! They need work from the orphaned genus level all the way down to the species level with the various green terrors.
