I am pretty new to GTs but that looks like a female to me.

If this is the same fish as in the original then I am changing to male. The scale coloring gives it away.

It doesn't have the long trailing fins that male GTs usually have.

yes this is the same fish, i originally thought it was a male but the fish is around 10 inches long now and has not developed the trailing fins or the hump.
so it makes me a bit skeptical on what it really is.
i would really like to know how to vent this fish so i could be sure, anyone know how?

Male. my male only show his big hump when breeding. I had my female for 3 yrs now and shes only 5 inch.

Fins and nuchal hump are not a fail proof ways to sex cichlids; of any species. Some females have both, and some males lack both.

its a female, mine is a definatley female an she has a slight hump t oo. looks almost identical to my female.
